I'm a bit confused about the brand new shiny style picker: I've tried all kind of selections and filters and they worked ok but as soon as I check the "include similar" box all my > 4500 styles are back in the main display (actually this check box produce the same effect as the "Clear" button). I guess it's not the normal behavior. What am I doing wrong? 2) If my styles database is corrupted, is there a way to rebuild it from ground up? I've tried Larry Kehl's suggestion ( http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=329040) but to no avail. Is there a more radical way to do this? 3) Finally, I used to have 3 user categories working in Biab 2015 (with their corresponding LS3 files). These user styles seem to have been properly imported in the new database, but the categories are gone. Are these user categories supposed to appear in the new "Categories" tab when I check "All categories"? For the time being they're not. Now a bonus question which was posted some years ago but apparently didn't receive any answer... I have at least 1000 'extra' *.STY files located in some BB subfolders (CGSOLOS, Folk Songs...). Are these styles useful official styles that I should try to import and try out? If so how can I do that? As they are not in bb root folder, the style picker is not aware of these styles. Extra bonus question: I've read somewhere that there exists a "Style picker Editor" which is (or was) useful to manage styles in Bb. If it is still there, where can I find it in Bb 2016? Thank you! M_M

1. Note sure what you mean but it looks like (by playing with it and reading help) the "Include similar" seems to include any/all styles that have ANY (operative word) of the SAME
Category OR TimeSig OR Feel OR Tempo OR Type OR (maybe?) Other. (if you have any SQL knowledge this will make sense - if you don’t - don’t worry about it)
2. If you did as I suggested in another post then Style Picker totals/list reflects the total BB root directory (X:\bb ) only of usable an VAILD styles (good uncorrupted .sty files). Step one of what I did was reset the Style Picker to list and look ONLY for the PG defined "base" (PG total .sty) list of .sty's and confirm they are (or aren't) in your BB root directory.
Step two adds in your 3rd party/user styles that are in the BB ROOT directory only, and only if they are VALID (no issues) .sty files.
3. I'm not PG but, as far as I can tell (by hands-on file "testing" - aka playing around like the geek I am) only .sty files in the BB ROOT directory (X:\bb\*.sty ) will be seen by the style picker so if you have styles (user styles) that ARE NOT in that root directory BB Style Picker won't see them .
Regarding the "extra" sty files in all the various sub-folders: some are duplicates and may (or may not) have already been placed in the BB root (if installed by PG installers) others are called up by the song from the directory the song is in, these seem to be specialized one-off styles:
Example in BB\Folk Songs\British\ the song (randomly picked) "brit17.mgu" calls up the style "SCOT30.sty" that it needs for that song, even though that style is not in the Style Picker.
If you have or find a .sty you like and want to use a lot, or modify, you could COPY it to the BB directory and it should show up as a user style (once re-scanned).
Finally I AM NOT the final authority on this but looks like .ls3 files aren't needed/used anymore - (even though it/they are still listed in the help file)????
good luck Larry

Thank you Larry for these details... and sorry for misspelling your name - I've edited my post to correct that I have some knowledge of SQL but still cannot understand this strange behavior. I was just expecting that 'include similar' would offer me some useful alternatives but not to present me this huge amount of styles. I will try again your suggestion to have all styles actually listed in the picker. But the first time I followed the steps you mentioned I just ended up with an empty style picker with no styles in it... even after the 'slow' rebuild which took about 10 minutes to complete. If LS3 files are no more in use, that would explain a lot... I'm still interested to know if I can expect my old user categories to appear in the new style picker. Anyone? Thanks again Larry! M_M
