I recently started using my copy of BIAB/RealBand 2015, and plan on upgrading to 2016 very soon (already purchased). Since this is all going onto a new "music computer" fresh install, I want to make sure that I am making the best choices in terms of software and system resources.
Tonight, I was working in RealBand with a test EZDrummer2 VSTi drum track that I recorded along with a couple of RealTracks. I couldn't help but notice that things were feeling a little bogged down with EZDrummer and a handful of VSTs running. All plugins are 64-bit running through jBridge.
Would I be better off installing the 32-bit versions of the VSTs/VSTi? I'm running an AMD FX 8320 octa core processor with 16gb of ram. My thought was that 64-bit would be the way to go so that the plugins could take better advantage of the available memory.

I just had a little more time to research this topic. Based on the jBridge website https://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/, it appears that the program should allow you to access all of your available RAM (vs. just 4gb in 32-bit). If that is the case, 64-bit plugins would be preferable. Could someone "in the know" please confirm or deny this? There may be some other settings in BIAB/RealBand that I have yet to tinker with for better optimization. Best, Mark

Yes, but remember it is just the plugin that gets the memory. The 64 bit Ozone dll is a whole 8 meg. As far as I can tell, everything going in/out of it is passing through 32 bit pathways. How much do you think that plugin is benefiting? I'm sure in some instances it helps, but for most users I doubt there is a huge difference unless the machine is struggling in the first place. Then, theoretically, you are also adding in the overhead of JBridge itself, minimal as it is. Biggest benefit for me is JBridge allows using 64 bit plugins when that's all I have access to. If there isn't a 32 bit version available or installed it still just works.
A couple of the best optimizations in RB as far as settings go (IMO):
Use a second hard drive for the Temp Audio Directory in Audio Prefs
Set Resolution to 3840 and leave it there.
The first gives faster and more reliable drive performance, the second allows for finer editing (just have to get used to the bigger maths).
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
