Probably another newbie problem. I'm trying to apply effects to the solo track. The VST is loaded and configured, but the track doesn't seem to be routing to it. I'm specifically trying to use Guitar Rig VST amp effects. I don't have any problem with it in Reaper, so it's not the VST. I've also tried other effects, so it has to be something basic I'm missing.
Once again, appreciate any help.

Hi LeeG and welcome to the forum!
The most likely answer without more information is you are trying to apply an audio effect to a midi track. Can you provide more information about what program you're using (Band-in-a-Box 2016 I assume) and what style, track or instrument you want to add the Guitar Rig VST amp to.

Hi Jim,
Yes, latest version of BiaB 2016 and it is w MIDI track. Your questions prompted me to do some more searching and it looks like I found my answer. I added CoyoteWT into the chain and my effects started working. To be honest, I've been confused on the role of CoyoteWT, but now I think I have a little better idea. The CoyoyeWT interface is still a bit a mystery to me, though. Still learning this stuff..

Your next step is to get something - anything - else for sound. The Coyote WT (wave table) was provided as a convenience for 64-bit Windows users to be able to get sound out of a VSTi. It uses the Microsoft sounds, about as bad as it gets.
The other Coyote product called Forte is sold by PG Music and is far superior for not much money. I have a hardware MIDI synth, so I'm not a good one to recommend, but others here can guide you to other choices for much better sounds than what you have. I think you would find doing so to be worth it.

As you discovered, Coyote is a sound module. There are many different kinds of sound modules including hardware and software. Sound modules can be monophonic and play one instrument sound or polyphonic and play multiple instruments at one time. Sometimes the sounds are built into the module (like Coyote) and sometimes the sounds have to be loaded into the player (like 1kMultimedia's SampleTank, another sound module provided for free by PG Music) each time.
When a sound module has the capability to play multiple instruments at the same time, has instrument sounds built-in and the instrument sounds follow a standardized list the sound module is said to be general midi compatible. Software examples include Coyote WT and Coyote Forte. Hardware examples include consumer keyboards.
