I am running the latest version of BIAB 2015. The computer is a fast I7 running windows 7 with plenty of ram, video card, etc.
I made a chord chart of "sugar" (Stanley Turrentine, using Eric Marienthal's version). I tell it to generate and it dies with an error message that won't go away. (Band-in-a-box application has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution). CTR-Alt-del brings up the task manager, but even there I try to kill the program and nothing happens. I can kill it, though, by stopping the BIAB process.

Here's the wierd thing: I delete a few of the last measures of chords and it's fine. I add them back in, and it dies. The whole thing is only 40 measures, complete.

Does this ring a bell? Any clues?
Thanks.

Nice tune. I'm very familiar with the original, not the Marienthal version.

From your description, I suspect the individual song file is corrupt. I'm assuming this doesn't happen with any other song, correct?

I suggest you re-enter the song, as it is short.

Before that, though, did you do the standard trouble-shooting? Options, Return to Factory Settings. And of course, reboot.

Geoffrey,

I agree with Matt. Another alternative that sometimes works is...

1. Open the SGU/MGU file in Realband.

2. Wait for it to generate.

3. Save the file with a new name in SGU/MGU format.

.... now see if this new file opens in BIAB and plays.

Regards,
Noel

Good suggestion from Noel.

I should add that I've only encountered one corrupted BIAB file in almost 25 years of use. Even for others posting here, it's quite rare.

Geoffrey, is there anything out of the ordinary in your song? Tag?

Can you post a link to the song where we can try it, such as Dropbox public?

Matt,

I occasionally suggest "corrupted file" while knowing it didn't ship corrupted but it does happen occasionally.

Those data bits lacking GPS sometimes make a wrong turn. Probably a result of driving at 186,000 miles/second with worn brakes and tires and no traffic lights or road signs. I hear they have Starbucks though.

I hadn't considered that, Don. I think you mean that the BIAB program or updates can perhaps have a problem when downloading, which one cannot rule out. For the benefit of Geoffrey, though, I was referring to a corrupted song file.

Wierd with a beard: I saved the song with a different name, as someone suggested, and then reproduced the bug. Killed the process, opened it again. Clicked on a measure to delete some measures, accidentally started generating, hit escape a few times, stopped the process. Hit play, it generated, and played without any problems.

I have no clue.

I'd be happy to share the file if anyone wants to jam with it (I'm a guitarist, learning the sax).

PS: I spoke too soon. Played around with it, generated a bunch of styles, eventually the same error came back.

Geoffrey,

This is sounding more like a Support problem. Give them a call tomorrow.

Geoffrey,

When you say...

Quote:
I saved the song with a different name

...it's not clear if you did that using BIAB or Realband. If the file is corrupted, I've found that saving the song with a different name using Realband can help. (Saving it with a different name using BIAB would have no effect, most likely, since the file is already a BIAB file.)

Regards,
Noel

Also as Matt has already suggested does this do it on all songs or only this one?

If all songs then the problem is with BiaB but if it happens only with this song then it is a corrupted song file. Anything that was running in the background like anti-stuff or something updating can cause a corrupted file. So can a hard drive problem. That is any hiccup can destroy a file while it is being saved.

So if it is a BiaB problem the best option is to contact support. If it is a corrupted song file then the best option is to delete this file and start again.

I have had corrupted files when working with other music programs and that is why I save the song that I am working on many times. I save as them as songtitle1, songtitle2, etc.

That's good advice smile
Not only to avoid bad files, but also as it gives you a kind of undo system (if you suddenly discover you messed up something in editing, then you can always load an older version that isn't messed up)
