For those of us who use GPO4, or are looking for an orchestra module: While they are still in the process of updating the web site (I just talked to Nick @ Garritan), the Garritan Personal Orchestra has been updated to version 5.

It's available for $149.95, or you can upgrade from GPO4 for $49.95.

LOTS of new goodies:
Quote:
GPO 5 is five times larger than GPO 4 and offers more than 500 instruments. Some of the additions include:
  • New Orchestral Strings including 94 section string patches, 33 small sections, and 28 solo strings in a wide range of bow strokes and techniques.
  • Seven additional choir groups with 23 patches, including boys’ and children’s choirs as well as sopranos, altos, tenors and basses.
  • Updated brass instruments from the renowned ProjectSAM’s “Orchestral Brass Classic.”
  • Two new concert grand pianos: a legendary 9’ Model D and a 7’ Model B.
  • Completely new harp instruments with harp pedaling emulation, a custom organ console for expanded pipe organ control, more than 16 new impulse response presets, and much more.

New instruments are just part of the GPO 5 package, with many advances also made in new techniques, performance spaces and reverbs, and instrument body resonances. The result empowers musicians to produce truly inspiring symphonic sounds with a much higher level of realism.

The current info page is http://www.garritan.com/blog/garritan-personal-orchestra-5-coming-soon/ and their store page does have GPO5 for download. (For another twenty bucks you can get it on a USB stick, but those haven't come in yet, apparently.)

Cool! I'll have to start saving up nickles and dimes. While I love the library, they've really fallen behind.

I was just working with the GPO 4 solo violin yesterday, and it's rather blah. GPO 5 has added a "Solo Violin Gypsy", which has a strong attack and deep vibrato. It's not as good as other libraries on the market, but it's probably worth the upgrade just for that.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Me too!

[But lately I feel like I'm being nickle & dimed to death (PG, Cakewalk, IK, NI, iZotope, UVI, Waves, ToonTracks, PreSonus, ...) wink ]

I agree, Larry. It is getting to the point of upgrade fatigue.

I would love to have the latest from IK (I have previously purchased Total Studio and upgraded it, but now the new 64-bit latest versions are available, but the upgrade price is $1000 - well at least I have $64 jam points); from Native Instruments (I have previously purchased Komplete and upgraded to Komplete Ultimate - now the latest version with the new toys is $199 to upgrade from Komplete 8); add in this Garritan upgrade (I have all the previous Garritan libraries), and other stuff I can't even begin to think of right now, and I think I'll need to stay where I am for awhile.

But a man can dream, can't he?

I will point out that Garritan hasn't upgraded GPO for years. Like, four or five. smile

I did upgrade to GPO5 yesterday. Great, great sounds. Lots of new stuff. The pipe organs and the choirs in particular are excellent.
