Hi

New to BIAB. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to import an audio or mp3 file and have BIAB transcribe the melody for vocals or lead guitar?

Thanks
Mick

That's not something that BIAB can do.

Often it can get you started with chords. Check out the Audio Chord Wizard.

Maybe.... It does have the Audio Chord Wizard (ACW) which can do quite a good job at deciphering the chords and the tempo of a song.

I have used the ACW a few times. The first time it nailed the song perfectly. The second time, it didn't. I ended up simply writing the chords in myself which took about 10 minutes after I spent well over an hour trying to get ACW to do it right. I think the issue on the second time was the chords were not basic chords and many of them had something other than the root in the bass.

If you are working with a commercial released song here are several tips to successfully get chord, key, tempo and melody or lead guitar part.

It helps if you do a google search for the chords/lyrics and/or find the song or a tutorial for the song on YouTube. Sometimes, someone has also done a simple piano or guitar cover of the song that makes it easier for the ACW to decipher.

One of the best things that Biab can do is to work with MIDI and audio. So, the next step is to find a good MIDI file of the song. Since you have researched and now know the original key, tempo and chord chart from having the ACW process the song, save and open a new BIAB session.

Open the midi file of the song, be sure that the key and tempo match your audio Biab saved version and then save the melody track and lead guitar track as individual midi files. Close this Biab session and open the audio Biab session and import the melody and lead guitar into the melody and soloist tracks. These two tracks will play over your BIAB generated style and you will also have notation available. You may have to adjust the number of bars as well as the song structure to match the MIDI version or otherwise edit the MIDI to match your version of the song. If it is a commercial release, they likely will match if you are doing an accurate cover.
