Hi All, I don't know why, but am having problems connecting and working with a midi keyboard and I am sure it's something to do with the way ASIO is setup. Notes are not being registered in BB, so recording is not happening. Although when I do a recording, it asks if I want to keep the take and say YES but nothing plays back. Have tried switching from MME to ASIO (not sure what this does apart from altering the latency) Strange thing is, I can get everything to work in RB, but not so with BB. Here are some shots of the RB and BB setup:
My Interface is Presonus Audiobox I have tried just running one application ata time to see if that helps. Probably not explained this very well but any help or pointers would be appreciated
I suggest that until you get the midi keyboard working, leave BIAB set up with MME as the audio driver. This always works. (ASIO can sometimes create complications and it's better to take one step at a time.)
Here are some things that I'd try in BIAB...
1. Set the audio driver to MME (not ASIO as you currently have it set).
2. Right-click on the speaker icon on the lower bottom right of the task bar (next to the clock) and select playback. I should open a window with the "Playback" tab (#1 below), selected.
3. Doubleclick on "Speakers" and then select the "Levels" tab (#2).
4. Check that all volumes are up (#3) and that none are muted. (On the image above, you can see that I have the Line-in 1/Mic channel slider fully up but the speaker icon shows that it's muted.)
Hi Noel, Thanks for the response. I checked through as you suggested, but my window is different to yours, although I don't suppose that makes a difference as the speaker volume is set to 100%.
I tried MME and it worked, but the latency was terrible. Now the strange thing is that I reverted to ASIO which fixed the latency AND the keyboard now works and shows on the THRU meter. I then tried recording and it placed a new track with the recording on it !! So it all seems good for the moment, but don't ask me why it works now and not earlier, maybe a couple of restarts sorted it out and it's working with ST2.5 with no perceptible latency.
I don't think I'll play with anything else while it seems to be working !
Another question: Have you had any luck with the ASIO Multi-client wrapper when using more than one interface? Just thought I'd ask before screwing anything else.
Yes indeed an annoying thing about windows is if you let the windows Media player play a midi file !. It sets the sw synth volume to zero when you exit every time.
As said above double click you speaker icon in the task bar to get to the vol mixer .
I haven't been able to trigger anything with MIDI in BB 2016 yet either. Well that's not totally true.. I can trigger general midi sounds only. When I boot up and open a new song, if I play the keyboard, it sounds like a piano plays (with high latency). If I simply go to the MIDI/Audio Plugin window and click on MIDI settings and just close windows, (not changing any actual settings -- it was set for ASIO from a previous session, and routing midi to the Thru track - even though it says for ASIO this doesn't apply, not sure how that makes any sense, since it is indeed routing it somewhere), and then suddenly the latency becomes low. This is 100% repeatable.
1) Boot computer, open BB2016 2) start playing keyboard to hear some midi patch's delayed audio on thru track 3) Open the windows: Options->Midi/Audio Driver->Audio Settings->Audio Drivers (was already saying "ASIO (Always)" and those two checkboxes "Use VSTi/DXi synth" and "Route MIDI Thru to Midi Driver" boxes were both checked previously) 4) Click OK on the Audio drivers window, and now the audio is not delayed anymore. It's as if it was being set to MME on its own even though I'd changed it to ASIO in the past and even though the settings visually reflect that when I open those windows on startup.
But then when I try to use a plugin on the thru track (sample tank, ivory, whatever), there is no sound at all. But I can see the level meters moving on that thru track when I play the keyboard. Just no sound! If I click the faux piano keyboard in whatever VST I'm using, it indeed produces sound.. and those same level meters move.. but just nothing when I play the controller (except for the moving level meters on the thru track).
So.. I have no idea what to do with this software yet. $800 for nothing so far!
FWIW, I am using an RME Fireface UCX and the Kawai VPC1 keyboard, Windows 10
