I really like the lead riff BIAB generated for me but I was not too happy with the way different bars were transitioning. They almost sounded like they were different guitars! So I was hoping I could simply switch to the DI version of this RealTrack and output that track to apply my own FX in my DAW. But BIAB will not allow me to do that; instead you must regenerate with the DI box checked and lose the previously generated track. (And yes, I understand that I can spend the next 8 hours trial and erroring the multiriff feature in RealBand to try and replicate what I had before!)
So I asked the question "Any Way to Convert a RealTrack to DI Without Regenerating?" (http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=341856) and much to my delight, Pipeline told me exactly how to do this and it was as simple as copying/moving around some folders to trick BIAB into thinking it was loading from the original RealTrack folder when in fact it was loading from the DI folder for that RealTrack! Worked perfectly and now I have the exact lead part previously generated but without the BIAB FX!!
Then I thought about this a little further and realized if this is so easy to do with folder copying/moving, it would be a very simple new feature to add to BIAB! So, here is my request...
When a DI version of a RealTrack is available, please display a toggle in the mixer to allow me to switch between using the version with FX or the DI version without regenerating! This should work on frozen or unfrozen tracks. And it should be quite simple to add this feature as all you need to do is change the file path used in loading the RealTrack!
+1 - It should be able to switch between the DI folder and the non-DI folder without requiring moving around.
And while yes, you can copy/replace the files, that's not a solution. That's a work-around (that works), but probably a disaster waiting to happen.
It would be nice if any DI enabled instrument just popped up the indicator and you check the one you want on the main screen (and it would grey out or disappear for non-DI instruments).

+1 Agree with everything said EXCEPT working with frozen tracks. Unfreeze the track, switch to DI, then refreeze.
Jim, I disagree about frozen/unfrozen and here is why...
The toggle for DI/non-DI should work without regard to the frozen status because that is how everything else in the mixer works. A frozen track can be adjusted for volume, for panning, for reverb and for tone. These controls are unrelated to the generation of the track and therefore they work regardless of the frozen status.
And switching between DI and non-DI is also unrelated to generation of the track. If it was tied to frozen/unfrozen it adds an unnecessary step, breaks with the current mixer standard and potentially causes the very problem it is intended to help...that of switching between DI/non-DI without regenerating!
The freeze/unfreeze relates only to track generation and since switching between DI and non-DI does not in any way engage track generation, please add this simple toggle and please do NOT relate it to frozen/unfrozen!
The main thing is you were stranded on the side of the road, but were rescued by a passer by - if you had to wait for pg to come with a fix you might not be here today to talk about it
Rather than a "wish" list it might be better with a donation bin where we all chip in to get things done - this will work in a more practical way than wishing hoping waiting for years in some cases that things just might be implemented - the user needs a bigger voice and more power as they are the ones that purchase year after year and should have a say where the money is spent - a crowd of users funding fixes n features. There just needs to be a better way of doing things don't you think ? - we are grown men n women here making wishes lol ! - we don't need to be little kids being told to close your eyes and make a wish. There needs to be a big change in how things are done - this is a good year for it.
Not meaning to hijack the thread, but unfortunately, somehow there's some merit in a funded solution. Because it's been mentioned previously that asking for features in the wishlist has been likened to tossing a coin in a wishing well...
BIAB & RB2025 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones
Yeah, let's keep this thread focused on discussing this specific wishlist item and start another thread somewhere else for bigger wishes like user-funded, etc.!
It has been almost 10 years since this request was made. It should be a fairly simple one to implement and would be quite useful for anyone who has achieved the perfect track and later decided they need a DI version of the exact same track!
+1 for an easy way to switch between RealTracks with added effects and RealTracks with Direct Input (DI).
JohnJohnJohn, am I correct in assuming the Realtracks Picker DI column and the DI checkbox in 2025 BiaB for Windows are not the intended solutions you're thinking about? If not, what is missing?

Here is how it works currently,
1) you choose a RealStyle that includes a RealTrack guitar soloist 2) you enter all your chords and set everything up like you want it 3) you regenerate several times until you get the guitar solo just perfect 4) you freeze the solo track so you won't lose it 5) you are ready to move all tracks to your DAW but your guitar solo has the fx built-in and if you now try to change it to DI it will require generation which ruins that perfect solo
I understand that I could change the guitar solo track to DI way back after step #1 before I fine-tune the solo but then I'd miss hearing how the solo with fx sounds in the song and that is one of BIAB's strong suits.
One way to add a DI option would be to add it to the "Render to Audio File" dialog like in the screenshot. Another way might be to include a "Switch track to DI Without Regenerating" option in the picker.
If PGM decides not to implement some feature like this you can always change your workflow to immediately replace the solo RealTrack with its DI version BEFORE working extensively on your song and just add a VST like Guitar Rig to the DI track.
