Hello All,
I am interested in using Addictive Drums with BIAB drum midi tracks.
I managed to set the plugin to Addictive Drums and Forced Midi channel = 1.
When I select various Addictive Drum drum kits I don't hear any drum sound changes. I don't see any drums being "played" on the Addictive Drums KIT window. I don't see any meter movement on the Addictive Drums KIT window.
Any help with setup will be greatly appreciated!!
CHEERS!!

voxbox,
BIAB midi drums use channel 10. See if setting Addictive Drums to receive midi on that channel helps.

Why did you force MIDI channel to 1 - no need (but should have worked anyway). In any case, I just loaded a MIDI only tune (random pick was zzjazzsw.sty), loaded it's demo song, TURNED OFF REAL DRUMS, added XLN AD2 as Drums Plug-in (it's a 64 bit plug-in, you do have JBridge?) into slot for drums in the "Plugins" pull down, set kit in AD2 to "Studio Bundle - AD classic Startup," hit play - no issues it worked. I also forced channel to 1, 5, 8, and 10 they all worked. By looking into this topic I JUST DISCOVERED you can't set/control channel in ADDICTIVE DRUMS, whatever comes over MIDI from DAW on the DAW's Drum channel (whatever that channel(s) is) PLAYS! I learn something every day (too bad it pushes out old stuff ) . I also tired original AD (version 1) 32 bit only ditto it all works I WILL SAY that the WINDOW for AD2 plug-in is NOT big enough within BIAB's allowable/provided VST edit window to get to AD2 Master Volume, or FX send, etc. About 15% of AD2 window is cut off on right within the PG VST edit window - I WILL report this to PG. I assume as a VSTi plug-in, not the standalone version, of AD works in other hosts for you? IF so not sure what to tell you, hope you get it working- Good LUCK! as an FYI http://xlnaudio.usa.s3.amazonaws.com/addictivedrums/manuals/how-to-separate-outputs.pdfLarry

Hi Noel
I got the drums to play and the ADDICTIVE DRUMS meters to respond.
What is happening now is the bass, piano, guitar and strings are also playing drums. there are no VST assigned to them so I must have something wrong with the MIDI receive for those instruments.
Many thanks!!

Hi Larry,
I have a 64 bit OS and 64 bit ADDICTIVE DRUMS.
I have ADDICTIVE DRUMS 1. I did not upgrade to 2.
With version 1 I don't have issues with the window being cutoff.
I am trying to sort out why the other midi instruments are playing the drums.
Thanks again for all of you that have responded!!

What that means is you are sending everything to the SAME MIDI channel within BIAB and it's all going to the channel you have DRUMs set on If you are forcing all channels like you did initially for AD, go back and set forced channel to NONE on all instruments. Is this MID file from someplace other than PG - i.e., did you load a web provided MIDI song into BIAB? if so it might be a Type 0 (all things on same channel) http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/what-difference-between-midi-type-0-midi-type-1/ Larry

In addition to Larry's thought... Is it possible that Addictive Drums is assigned to the "Default Synth" location rather than the "Drums" location? That is, it should be located under the button numbered 1 and not 2 on the image below. (I'm not sure what would happen if this were the case but it might be worth looking at.)

hi Larry and Noel,
Only drums has a VST assigned. the MIDI file is what BIAB generated.
Also there is no "set forced channel" on the other instruments.
I did go into MIDI OPTIONS / CHANNELS and set all of the other instrument channels to 0. But I don't think that is a good solution.
Now only the drums are playing.
I don't get a visual or audio count-in. Not sure what is going on there.
THANKS AGAIN!!

I loaded a midi style demo - disabled realdrums - set the plugin on drums track to addictive drums and it all worked. Have you been into Preferences - Midi Driver & Count-in Met.
There is a 50% off sale now SPRING16 but AD2 needs vst sync that band in a box and real band don't have.

Time to do a factory reset inside band in a box.
Then try using Addictive Drums again but don't force the channel simply insert Addictive Drums in the drum slot in the pull down.
Remember to turn off real drums again
Re:. Pipelines post about VST needing sync that's only true if you're trying to use the Beats part of Addictive Drums 2 - as simpky a drum kit AD2 works just fine I do it all the time.

Hi Larry and all that responded.
I did the reset that you recommended.
After the reset I selected Addictive Drums VST for DRUMS.
I started the song and I could hear Addictive Drums (AD) and the AD meters were working and I could vary the levels within AD
BUT I did notice that there was no bass drum playing.
I went to AD BEATS screen and selected MAP WINDOW. The MAP PRESET was set to Start-Up. I set it to GM and I could hear (and see)the bass drum being played. I changed several AD drum presets and they all worked.
Success:)
I did notice that when I close and open the song I am working on, the AD MAP PRESET defaults back to START-UP. So I repeat the above process.
Not too sure what to do about that.
To Noel, Larry and all the rest that chimed in with suggestions a big Thank YOU!!!!!!!!

Ain't midi fun?
Now you know why so many just say to heck with it and use Real Drums even though you don't have the control you get with midi.
If you decide to experiment with AD's own grooves, they won't work with Biab. Biab must generate the midi drum part then any midi drum module can play it.

Hey Bob,
Yes MIDI is real "fun" LOL.
REAL DRUMS are very good if you want a conventional drum sound.
AD offers drum presets that alters the sound (distortion, way-out reverb for example)of the kit. I like experimenting with the sound of the drum kit so AD is good for that.
Thanks for your input!!

It's fun to mess around with that, I have Jamstix but still use the RD's most of the time. At least it's fun until I get trapped in midi hell...

After you select the GM drum map be sure to click on make this my default. After you do this every time you open AD drums it will be in the GM mode.
I use GM mode most of the time when I use Sonar and AD2 drums.

This raises the question of why use GM in the first place. Or not.
Why do people buy these drum programs? Obviously because they're not drummers but want to create an authentic sounding drum track.
Why do these programs have non GM drum kits? It's because many musicians can be pretty good at tapping out drum patterns with their fingers either on a keyboard or a drum pad controller. The GM drum mapping is not necessarily the best map to use for that. It places certain drums under certain keys or pads that can be awkward for a finger tapper to use. This is the reason for non GM drum mapping. Different companies develop what they think is a great drum map for a player to use with their fingers and hands.
When I refer to midi hell what I'm really saying is it's hard sometimes to keep all of this clear in your head in the middle of a project. I can get tripped up all the time because I forgot about one midi function or another.
When you're a full time studio producer then of course you become a true expert at midi and can do all kinds of wonderful stuff. The rest of us have a hard time with it because it is complex and if you're not working with it on a daily basis it just becomes impossible.
Which completes the circular question, why use GM? Because with all it's limitations, it's brain dead simple.

Hi MarioD and Bob,
MarioD: Thanks for the AD tip. I will definitely set the AD default button so that AD opens in the GM mode. I noticed when I use REAPER DAW I don't have to set AD to GM mode.
Bob: MIDI can be a mess. I think that some companies have different midi mapping so that third party drum midi patterns can't be used with their players. There are midi mapping converters that can reassign the keys. some work well others don't.
Bob how do you like JAMSTIK?
Thanks again for all of your input:)

First, I haven't upgraded to JS3 but I will. My thing is for what I mostly do Real Band is my go to DAW. Problem is the JS brain won't work because it requires a tempo lock with the host and both Biab and RB don't support that. It's been wished for for years now and it either can't be done or it's not a priority with PG. Either way, it's a dead issue.
I also will use Studio One on occasion and the brain works fine there but figuring out the best way to use it is yet another big learning curve that I haven't really dug into. This is a long winded way of saying I basically use JS as a drum module and for that it sounds great.
