So I really like what the Real drums can do, however I sometimes find mixing them in my DAW (Samplitude Music Studio 2016) to be a challenge, as all instruments are in one track.
Reverb on the kick is a no no IMO, but you have to do it with one drum track.
Trying to get the right sounds out of one track of drums with a snare and rim click...challenging...but it can be done.
An easier way would be Midi drums...So now to my question.
Is there a way in RB or BB to have a midi drum track, with or without the real drums?
With the midi drum track I can break it down...make things sound like they should with a lot less effort.

HI Tony.
In BiaB or Realband, open the style picker window and in the filter boxes at the top look for TYPE and select MIDI ONLY. All these styles will have a MIDI drum track which you can use.
Alternatively, if you want to add reverb to realdrums, but keep it off the kick drum, use the PG Music reverb plugin and lift the fader for the LF roll-off until the kick drum sounds dry. The frequency of the kick drum is way below that of the snare and hi-hat and a little below most of the toms, so this method works quite well.
Hope this helps.
ROG.

Ok thanks for the Midi tip...I figured it was possible. I am sure they won't be as complete as the Real drums but it is at least a good starting point, rather than having to program them manually... Which is not hard, just time consuming..and I'm lazy...

Alternatively, if you want to add reverb to realdrums, but keep it off the kick drum, use the PG Music reverb plugin and lift the fader for the LF roll-off until the kick drum sounds dry. The snap of the kick can be about 2kHz sometimes .. the advice given can help, but may need to think about this deeper to be truly effective. IMO You can limit the 'boom' this way, but getting a crisp 'snap' of the BD pedal hitting the head can be challenging this way. Either separate (audio) drum tracks (or MIDI) will likely yield better results. Once Realdrums are used this can indeed be problematic due to a single stereo track as the source. Again, just IMHO
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hi Bob.
I take your point, but remember that we're only applying the LF roll-off to the reverb, to remove it from the kick drum. No EQ is applied to the original dry kick drum, so the beater click is still there.
Just a thought..
Cheers, ROG.

You can separate the drum instruments to separate tracks by using EDIT > MIDI > Split Midi Drums. The Midi Data will still be using Channel 10 and therefore you need to send the Kick Drum to another Synth or if a VSTi/DXI synth you may use a different iteration.
I have used this method on a number of occasions to isolate various drum instruments for different treatments.

Ok thanks all...
If I can get the Midi drums I want I can get the sound I want as I have hundreds of drum sound fonts and samples in my DAW and Kontakt 5 SW.
Nothing beats (pardon the pun) the sound of real drums but I find the mixing can be tough depending on the kit and or sound or play of the track.
Before BB I used mostly Midi drums so I am very familiar with them. And am also accustom to real drums, but on separate tracks...
Thanks T.T.

I am looking for a REAL sounding solution to the problem created by having all the drums on one TRACK. All suggestions are being read guys, and its giving me some real help THANKS everyone.

dga Here's a kinda advanced user tidbit If you load the wma file for a Realdrum and listen to it, you (may) be able to isolate individual samples of the realdrums. In my experience these are most likely at the end of the wma file. My routine to the best way to mix MIDI/realdrums: Listen to the WMA for the selected RealDrums. Cut individual samples (carefully) Save as individual files. Use a preferred Sample Player VST (like free DR-005) /There are (hopefully) still links on this site for the above VST. If not, a couple of us could provide/ In the Sample Player load the actual individual drum samples for the RealDrums into separate drum sounds. Use these on MIDI tracks via the sample player. An example of where to find the WMA file would be X:\bb\Drums\RockHardLA^\RockHardLA^_120_Style.wma^ at about the 12 minute mark. (X = the drive letter for BiaB installed drums above) It takes some work, but the MIDI drums then match the RD sounds .. depending on your need. Anyway; the RD samples are often available if you know how to use them for MIDI sound generation. http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=267958&Searchpage=1&Main=38298&Words=DR005&Search=true#Post267958^^I found link to the mentioned Sample player
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Did you notice the date of my linked post? Been throwing this out there for years, not sure why others don't seem to find it useful. Realdrum Samples
This can be fun. Even if you just want a couple cymbals (or a ride) in a certain area.. or at the end.
The linked Sample Player may appear to be a hack, but it isn't. It's an endorsed version including the serial number. A few years back I posted the permission I was given on this forum. Not sure if it still exists. The company gave me authorization to share it for free on this forum for these products. The plugin has advanced exponentially since the posted version, so it's limited, but serviceable. I thought that was very cool of them.

But, I'm not getting any closer to playing MIDI drums in RB because I cannot seem to understand how to set up drum samples to be triggered by the MIDI data generated in RB. I thought I could use the BIAB VST drums Sample Tank / Hi Q sounds just cannot figure out how this is done.
