Hey Folks,

I have 3 different ideas for improving the StylePicker. I think they would all be fairly easy to implement and would make the StylePicking experience better.

(1) A FAVORITES COLUMN
Instead of having it change the look of the style name when you Favorite a style, it would be much more visually pleasing and easier to read the style names if the "Fav" designation could be in it's own separate column.

Here's how it looks now (BIAB 2016, Mac build 127):

And here is a mock up of what I am suggesting:

They don't have to be bullets. It could still be the word "Fav" or any other kind of bullet or indicator, but the important part is that it has it's own column and doesn't clutter the legibility.

BONUS >>> And furthermore, if there was a dedicated Favorites column, we could click on the Favorites header and sort all the styles so that our Favorites all pop up to the top of the list.

(2) STYLEPICKER PLAYLIST
It would be fantastic if we had the option to have BIAB play the selected Styles in the StylePicker as a playiist (just like a playlist of songs in iTunes).

Sometimes, I want to go to the kitchen or set up some equipment (or whatever) and would like to be able to listen to my selected Style options without having to click each one individually. It would be very helpful if we could click on an option that causes BIAB to play the NEXT Style demo automatically as soon as it finishes playing the current demo.

(3) FIX THE RESETTING OF THE LIST
As was reported in another thread, some actions cause the Style list to scroll right back up to the top. If you're auditioning a long list of styles and decided to Favorite a style, the list jumps back up to the top again and you have to manually scroll down again to find where you were in the audition process. That's very inconvenient, especially when we're dealing with a list of hundreds of styles.

Please update the StylePicker so that it intelligently remains in the same part of the Style List after adding favorites.

Thoughts anyone?

As do I.

But I don't know how easily the favorites column would be to code.

Knowing and understanding that we cannot add song titles to the PGMusic new style method of searching and finding compatible styles paired with a particular song and the varying different versions, it would be beneficial for PGMusic to create a forum thread or database accessible by forum members as a clearinghouse/common storage area that forum members could submit songs they find to be compatible with a particular song. This would help to increase the song search database.

+1 to this also. Good idea Charlie

Good idea. Some enthusiastic users could surely help to improve the quality of the results.

Unfortunately, the songs that are already in the database bring up all sorts of styles that don't sound anything like the song name entered, and they don't seem to be listed in order of the closest matches either. I'd rather get just a small handful of results that are truly in the ballpark of a song than to get over 3000 results where the first result is a completely different from the song title entered.

Actually they have already implemented this kind of thing in the RealDrums Picker with Favorites being indicated by a bullet in it's own column which can be clicked on for sorting the list of drums by favorites.

Having said that, adding new favorites to that Picker is broken in BIAB 2016 (Mac) so the coding may very well be complicated enough that it's easier to break.

I have another suggestion for the StylePicker...

Please tell me if I am overlooking something, but there doesn't seem to be a way to filter the styles by the number of a RealTrack instrument. For example, typing in #2155 or RT2155 produces zero results, and the Bonus menu also fails to provide the option.

In the Bonus menu, you can find Styles using a lot of different information including:

Specific RealTracks Set #...
Specific MIDI SuperTracks Set #...
Specific MIDI Set #...

But NOT Specific Instrument #...

Can this please be added as a search option?

If you LOVE the sounds of a particular instrument (maybe it's an electric piano instrument that you want to use again, or maybe it's an electric guitar or a bass, or whatever) you should be able to *easily* find all styles that use that instrument so that you can audition them in the StylePicker and perhaps find a companion style for something you've created which uses that same instrument.

For whatever reason you might want to audition them, it should be simple to search by Specific Instrument #....

If this is already possible, I would be grateful if someone could tell me how I can accomplish this.

Thanks,

Zedd

You can search for the name of the RealTracks and that will show the list you want. The name can be obtained from any memo.

I don't mind the white, but I am all for the idea of including white on black as a viewing option. I love options and configurability!
