While learning a passage on the guitar, I often high light some seconds of a wave track, and loop it again and again until I have got the part right. Suddenly I experience that there's only sound the first time the loop passes, next time there's no audio even if the loop repeats. Can anyone try this out for me?

Have you tried consolidating the track?
It may be getting lost with multiple markers ..
Right-click the Track - Select All (CTRL+A)
Edit-Track-Consolidate Audio Region
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

It worked, do you have any explanation ?
A small extra Q: Does RB have a function where I can stop the looping and have a narrow sample of the audio sound continuosly, maybe even advance back and forth in small steps around the audio of interest, could be a nice feature for learning difficult lead parts, wishful thinking I guess :-)

I selected a section of a track and enabled Loop, then played it. It looped as expected.
If you are asking about a possible cause (explanation) of why it wouldn't work, I put that in my previous post above. Try Consolidate.
As for your other 'extra Q', I don't know of any way to do that in RB.

I assume that you are using the "LOOP" function and have enabled the "Highlighted Section". If so, Solo the Track and the highlighted section will loop continuously. Use the "ZOOM" facility to see more detail in the track you are using. Extend or shorten the amount of track looping by clicking with the mouse while holding down the "SHIFT" key. However, this change cannot be made while looping is in progress.

Thanks LynB, I thought about an automated version where you stop the playback by hitting a key and the audio is continuosly sounding and then by using the arrow keys you move back and forth until you have deciphered the guitar passage in question. Just like we did in the old days when using tape :-)
