I drag Bass to Drop Box WAV. I verify it lands in my designated Drag Drop Folder. C:/....songname BBBass_Real_1255Bass...etc... I drag Drums to Drop Box WAV. It lands in my designated Drag Drop folder as C:..songname...BBDrums_RealDrums... and "poof" my bass track is missing from my designated Drag Drop folder. Not even a dust trail. I verify the drum track is there I Drag Drop Bass again and, without even making a fizzling sound, the drum track has vanished. Happens with whatever instrument I do. They all have a different file names generated by the Drop Box doom-a-flatchie but each one cleans out the previous like a magic eraser. Can't have more than one at a time??? That rule stinks. But, the last track from the song I did a few weeks ago (which is the first one I did like this) is still there.
So, I've been poking at it like this; Drag Drop bass / Open designated folder / Move to different folder / Drag Drop Drums / Open designated folder / Move to different folder / Drag Drop Strings / Open designated folder / Move to different folder / and so on. So, they will all stay in a folder together once I move them.
I'd like to Drag Drop Bass / Drag Drop Drums / Drag Drop Strings / Open the designated once folder and find them all there without the need to move them.
Any clues.

Confirmed.

I just tried what you suggested and got the same result. My drag drop folder already had files in it from other songs.

I opened a different song, dragged the Bass to WAV waited for it to render, went to the dragdrop folder, found the bass file and played it. OK.

I went back to BiaB and dragged a guitar track to the DragDrop Wav item and immediately, the Bass file was deleted.

All of the other files were still there.

An undocumented (and unwanted) feature. I'll report it, it may get noticed.

Unwanted -Yes, but undocumented and unreported -No.

Sorry to say this is an old item which has been discussed here in the past. It has been documented and reported. Workarounds are available.

Hmmm, thanks JMD. But I think this is different. The other post you referenced stated:
Quote:
...it looks like he's dragging a second file to the drop station before he's dragged the first file out to a target. The 2nd file would have the same name as the first... and would overwrite the 1st file.

That's not the case here. The files all have different names. So why would a file with a different name be deleted?

Is this the same thing you are referring to? Files with different names being deleted?

If so, I wonder if PG can make a statement if this is a deliberate design feature, and explain why? If there is a reason, I can't think what it is.

Moreover, if it has been documented and reported and nothing has been done to resolve it, that makes the problem even worse!

This is a good example of why I try and restrict my use of BIAB to just the basics of track generation. I find the quicker I can get my tracks out of BIAB and into something more stable the better off I am.

The reason I do one track at a time, instead of drag-drop the Master, is; often I only want a few tracks from the particular style.

When I drag-drop the Master it puts them all in my designated Drag Drop folder just fine. Which means I had to wait for rendering and then delete the tracks I don't want.

Also, the first song I did like this a few weeks ago I initially drag-dropped the master and it regenerated each instrument during the drag-drop process. I did not want them regenerated. So, I went to the single drag-drop/move to new folder method and each track "sounded" like my BIAB tracks. But, last night I first Froze each track, Save Special-with volume, reverb, panning, then drag-dropped the Master and each track "sounds" like my frozen track. I simply deleted the unwanted tracks. So, I'll just use this method forever since it will likely become my habit even after a fix or update.

BTW; When I drag-drop the Master it puts them all in my designated Drag Drop folder with a name format for each track that is different than the name assigned to each file via single drag-drop. This knowledge might be a clue that leads to the problem/solution. Perhaps another clue might be this thingy I noticed; My song is name and/or song file name get shortened by the auto-naming process of the Drag Drop feature. Ex; song name in BIAB song header = Faith, Hope, Love-Bm Take 1. Song file name as saved in directory = FaithHopeLove-BmT1. Track file name produced by Drag-Drop to WAV = FaithHopeLov....RealBass-2255BBBass.... or what ever it was, (I'm not on my DAW at the time of writing this) But, the rendered WAV track title cuts my song name off after a few characters and fills in the rest. So, perhaps using a shorter song name would produce results that don't poof the other files from the designated Drag-Drop folder. Someone else can try it 'cause I'll be gone for a few days and then forget since I have currently working solution.

VT, Yes, it could be a different root cause, but the symptoms and workarounds are the same. The conclusion at the time as I recall was to adjust ones workflow (in other words find a workaround). I drag and drop directly to my DAW so my tracks are immediately captured. So while they may still be overwritten and/or deleted from the drop box, this workflow does not see any problem.

Just curious, why would one use the Dropbox if one can drag directly into the DAW?

I suspect the "DropBox" is appropriate when you either can't drag to your DAW (Reaper accepts the direct drag and drop some others may not) or you only want to drag a wav file for some other purpose (in this latter case I bet there are other ways to export a wav file. Bottom line is the Dropbox has had one issue or another for a long time as evidenced by these threads.

Thanks for the explanation. I've only used direct drag 'n drop [to SONAR] since it was made available, so I never tried the Dropbox (thus never experienced problems you and others have mentioned).

Well, I sent a detailed email to PGM Support describing the problem in detail, and advising them that this is an existing issue that needs to be resolved, together with a link to this thread.

This should be a very easy item to deal with.

I do hope that they are prepared to resolve.

Maybe Andrew will have it listed as a "Fixed: " item in the next patch...

I save each track as a stem. I can reimport it to RealBand as a dry un-edited track in case I need to start over with editing. Or, in case I want to copy/paste sections of a duplicate track into the actual track I'm going to keep. Example; I might copy and drum roll from the stem/duplicate track from bar 16 and paste it into my keeper drum track at bar 32. Or, I'll have a synth panned far left for most of the song on ,say, track 7, then use the duplicate to center up a section when I want it to stand out. Just some quirky way I've learned to pseudo automate things in RealBand. Unless RB has panning automation that I don't know about. Sometimes I duplicate the acoustic guitar track. Both tracks are panned slight left and slight right for, say, the intro or particular passages during the song but the rest of the time one of the tracks is silent. This moves the acoustic out of the way during a verse or chorus and widens it up full during a rhythmic section without vocals. Again, it's just a tweeky way I do things that makes me feel creative.

I got a reply back from PGM Support, which stated:

"Hi Trevor,

Thanks. The same thing is happening here, and it looks like the development team is aware of the issue. This will be fixed with an update patch.

However, after more testing, I noticed something else. If I drag Bass to the Drop box, then drag from the Drop box to my desktop or DAW (which is the purpose of the Drop box), it doesn't get deleted from the DragDrop folder when I drag another track onto the Drop box. They only get deleted if I drag multiple tracks to the Drop box without exporting them.

So until this is fixed, we can get around the issue by exporting tracks to the DAW before dragging another one onto the Drop box, or just dragging the track names directly to Explorer, as the Drop box is only needed when exporting to a DAW anyway."

So it looks like it's in the 'Get This Fixed List'. It would be great if we knew how soon this will be addressed.

For Info
Trevor

So, drag out to elsewhere immediately forces the next drop to designated folder to not poof the previous track from that folder. Huh! I had not tried copy to different folder to see if it stayed put. I was doing this:
Drag Drop bass / Open designated folder / Move to different folder / Drag Drop Drums / Open designated folder / Move to different folder / Drag Drop Strings / Open designated folder / Move to different folder / and so on.
So, I was manually clearing it from the designated folder before dropping the next track in. Where "copy" to different folder might prevent poofing.
Not that this makes any difference since a fix is coming. I'm just noting it here so after the fix I can try it again. If I remember.
