Hi. I'm trying to understand the soloist feature in BIAB a little bit better. Read the manual and watched a few videos.
What I want to do is have the soloist play for a few bars in the middle of a song. I can't seem to figure that out. The soloist plays thru the entire tune.
I notice that the Real Band vids make this very clear and possible yet I can't seem to do the same in BIAB.

Welcome to the forum.
I'm not an expert on that function and others may have a better solution, but there is one easy way to do this. You can mute the solo where you don't want to hear it, measure by measure. Press F5 and you will see controls to mute / unmute each track.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

The easiest way is how Matt describes. The most precise way is to use the Soloist function. There are preset selections or you can customize your soloist there.
Either way you choose, if you're not aware, you can assign multiple soloist RealTrack instruments on the Soloist or any BIAB track except Realdrums. PGMusic provides several selections of alternating instruments in the RT's window that play set numbers of bars and then switch or you can design your own.

Directions to tell the soloist to play only specific bars - for example, 16-24.
Select and generate the soloist instrument
Select bar 1 - tap button F5 on your computer keyboard. This opens the song settings menu. From the instrument list, click on the arrow selection button to the right side of the blank bar of the Soloist Track.
Select Mute
Hit OK to save and exit the Song Settings Menu.
Select bar 16 and open the Song Settings Menu by tapping the F5 button.
Open the drop down menu of the Soloist track and select "Back to Normal" Hit OK to save and exit the Song Settings Menu.
Select bar 24 and open the Song Settings Menu by tapping the F5 button.
Open the drop down menu of the Soloist track and select "Mute" Hit OK to save and exit the Song Settings Menu.
When you play the song, the soloist track should remain muted until bar 16 wherein at that bar, the Soloist begins to play and continues to play through bar 24 at which time the Soloist track mutes again.

Great.
By the way, for F5, first click on the measure where it will apply.

Sometimes I just click on soloist and select soloist dialog on the dropdown menu.
The soloist dialog opens, I then select the realtracks or midi instruments on left side, clicking on custom on bottom right side of the soloist dialog will open a window that lets me select the bars to use.

Would it be easier to perfect the song in BIAB and then edit the soloist track in Real Band? Just curious.

Lee,
It would certainly be more effective in Realband because there is much more control over Realtrack generation. Also, being able to copy and paste sections of the track to where one wants them could be very useful.

Select the soloist button. In the soloist window select a midi or Real Track soloist of your choice, click on it. You`ll get another window with a lot Soloist of information. On the left side of the window you will see 3 choices select custom. Another window will pop up on the top left of your screen. There will be 3 boxes measure, chourse, and number of bars. just fill these in hit generate solo and that should do it.The soloist menu offer a lot of options but this should answer the questio I hope. F5 works also the choice would be yous. Just another option hope it helps.

))) Select the soloist button
Yes, you can get a custom generation this way, for example, a 16 bar solo starting at bar 64.
You can also add to an existing solo without losing the first one, for example generating a completely different instruments solo at bar 996 for 8 bars.
