I have a old camcorder that sounds pretty bad. The picture is fine so I need to find a way to record audio on my computer with a USB microphone that I have. I would like to do this while playing a BIAB song on my computer and playing my Sax. I want to avoid buying any more camera gear. Ideally recording the video on the camera and later adding the audio file to the video. I may use these for YouTube but mostly I need these recordings for demos for getting gigs. I have a ASUS X751S laptop that has excellent sound and I run it through a Samson Expedition 150 PA system. The USB microphone is a Samson XPD-1. I have a Mic as well on my Horn. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit in the movie program that came with your computer - Windows Movie Maker or Imovie.
You can easily replace the audio that the camcorder recorded with audio you recorded from BIAB, RealBand or any other audio source.
BIAB 2025:RB 2025, Latest builds: Dell Optiplex 7040 Desktop; Windows-10-64 bit, Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz CPU and 16 GB Ram Memory.

Have you ever heard the expression... "Use the right tool for the job"....? That applies here. No laptop has an "excellent" sound card for recording multitrack. Yeah it sounds good but it can't do multitrack very well, especially if you're using midi in there somewhere. My suggestion is to use or try to use REAL BAND to record the audio track. If you have BB, you got RB with it. Use it to get the audio sounding right. Generally, I do not recommend using a USB mic due to timing and clocking issues between the USB mic (a soundcard in itself) and the laptop's soundcard which is likely running MME drivers. They can't be synced properly and tracks will at times drift out of sync. However, give it a try. If that fails, the proper hardware for the job is a dedicated, external USB connected musical interface that runs ASIO for it's driver. If the camera you use now gives you good quality video, no need to get new camera gear. I have used a FLIP video camera to do most of my home made video recording. Then, once you have the audio sounding good, use any of the movie maker video type software to insert the video. Play along with the song and when you can play it 99.9% accurately start to finish, use that take or do segments that fade in and out from various angles. Using the segments lets you cover and remove mistakes in the video sync with the music. This Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlNHrbyeCxE was done the exact way I just described above. I recorded the audio first in my multitrack DAW (Sonar) then I video taped several segments of the song and spliced them together in Windows Movie Maker. The editing on this was a bit sloppy since things are a bit out of sync in places..... but you get the idea as to what and how you can do things if you take your time and think it through a bit first.

You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
