I'm using BIAB 2016, my keyboard plays on THRU channel and I've chosen some style for a backing track. I have to set my keyboard volume level to about 90, and the other instruments (drums, bass, guitar) to about 25, in order for them to all sound approximately equal in volume. Is there anyway to normalize these settings, so for example, they would all be set to about 50 on the mixer when they play with the same volume?

That isn't right, clearly. My BIAB levels are centered around the default of 90.
What kind of keyboard, and how is it connected?
Did you check the Windows mixer levels?

What kind of keyboard, and how is it connected?
Yamaha P90, midi out goes into audiophile 2496 sound card in a windows 7 machine. Audio out from audiophile card goes to my stereo amplifier. Did you check the Windows mixer levels? I'm on shaky ground understanding what I'm looking at, but here's what I think is happening. The VSTi/DXi synth is checked, and so is Route MIDI thru to MIDI driver, so I think that means it uses the Coyote Wavetable for both thru channel and instruments. So I don't think the mixer table in the audiophile card does anything, but I could be wrong.

It would only do that if you selected the Yamaha keyboard as your MIDI Input device in Preferences, MIDI Drivers. Try selecting the Audiophile card as input, and you should be able to use the sound card mixer to increase the gain.

It already had Audiophile card selected as input. The only thing the audiophile mixer allows me to do is adjust the output gain, which makes all the instruments (and my keyboard) get louder or softer together.
Let me see if I can write down how I think things work and tell me if this is correct. The midi output from my keyboard goes into the midi input on the audiophile. BAIB has as it's input MIDI driver the audiophile card. So BIAB takes the midi from my keyboard and uses the Coyote synth to produce audio output. That audio output is mixed with the audio output from the backing track and sent through the audiophile output to my stereo. So it seems like the only part of the process that has separate control over the audio volumes is BAIB.

OK. I had an Audiophile 2496 mixer years ago, and it had its own software mixer. Doesn't yours?

I've had this card for a long time and I'm sure it used to have a mixer. The manual shows a mixer, but the interface looks very different from the manual. There have been quite a few software updates over the years and I think they changed the interface a lot. I'll do a few screen captures tomorrow and post them, maybe I'm missing something.

OK I found this this signal flow diagram on the audiophile forum that shows the newer style control panel that I have. I believe that shows that the only control the mixer provides is over the volume level of the combined signal at several points. I also tried using the windows volume controls, which has no affect, but that's what I would expect since I'm using ASIO. So I'm still stumped.

OK. So you are mixing audio and MIDI and have the level mismatch between those two. I assume you connected the MIDI keyboard right to the M-Audio card, but maybe not, and how again did you connect the audio? You said you mixed the BIAB output with the Coyote synth. Can't you route the Coyote synth to the MIDI input on the audiophile, so you have something controlling the volume of only that?
Sorry, it's been so long since I worked with that card, and when I did, I was using the SP/DIF outputs.

I'm so glad you'll take the time to help me, no need to apologize.
Here's the setup, as best my admittedly cursory understanding allows. MIDI output from keyboard goes to MIDI input connector on audiophile card. BIAB takes midi input from card and does some magic I don't understand that turns it into digital audio using the coyote synth. BAIB combines that digital audio with the digital audio from the backing track that's playing, and sends it all to the S/PDIF software device on the card. The card then does a D/A conversion and sends it out the audio output jacks and to my stereo.
So the way I use this is to enter chords into BAIB, pick a style and play it while I'm playing my keyboard. I use the THRU channel in BIAB for my keyboard.

Talked to PG tech support. The solution is to increase the velocity of the MIDI value being input to BIAB. There's two ways to do it, one is in BIAB:
Options->Preferences->MIDI Options->, and in the section labeled “MIDI thru” change the value labeled “Boost THRU velocity by” to 127
That comes close to resolving my problem: my keyboard now is on volume level ~60 while the backing instruments are set to ~45.
The other way to address the problem is to increase the velocity of the MIDI value being sent by the keyboard. I see no way to do that on my keyboard, and in fact there are many posts on the forums that say the Yamana P family of pianos don't output the full 127 value for MIDI velocity, which is consistent with what I see. The argument they make is to buy a real synth, like the Yamaha S90, if you want that kind of control over the MIDI values, or buy a little box called a MIDI velocity converter and hang that on the output of the keyboard.

I have to do the same thing. My keyboard outputs with a velocity of around 60 and I generally boost it at least to about 90 or 100. I don't go all the way, as my softsynths sometimes get harsh sounding or do different articulations at full velocity. If I need full 127 velocity, I edit that on a note by note basis.
