Have created various tracks using various MIDI styles....and in every case, the closing bar(s) are cut off slightly at the end, ie the final note/chord(s) aren't permitted to fully fade, even though it would only take an extra second or two. Was this fixed as some point?

I don't think we've had this problem for a very long time.

You didn't say what version you are using.

Are you specifying a Bar at End of Chorus that is several measures beyond where you want the fade to end? Or an end of tag measure well beyond, if using a tag? That's likely your solution.

Are you using a held chord?

Are you using the built-in ending, and if so, is it 4 bars?

More info would help a lot.

A fix was never needed for this. You can program your endings for any length and fade-out. It's in the manual. Ray

Look in Song Settings, the button next to Memo.

Ray, that wasn't the case a few decades ago. Songs would clip at the end. But you would have to go so far back that only a few of us would remember that.

You're right. The endings were limited back in the 3.5 disc days.

I'm using the standard (in this version anyway) 2 bar ending. It's not going "beyond" anything, if I follow you. Yes, it's a held (sustained) chord that tries to fade naturally, but BIAB cuts it off.

If you aren't using a tag, make one. Then make the last bar of the tag several measures beyond where it is now. Example change 34 to 37.

If you aren't sure how to do that, give us the specifics about your song settings. Better yet, put your song on a public Dropbox and send us the link.

No guarantees, given that this version of BIAB is so old. The somewhat newer 4-bar ending feature is actually a 2-bar ending with 2 added bars for fadeout. If it doesn't work, don't use the built-in ending; just hold the last chord.

It might also depend on what MIDI device he is using also. Presumably this will be a MIDI song?

Switch to the 4 bar ending. It gives you 2 more measures for a more natural fade.

Alternatively, you can write your own custom ending. Shut off the factory endings and just use the bars needed for your ending and a nice fade. I have been using this method on quite a few of my last few songs. I like a custom ending.

Herb, I think that his version 2008 may not have the 4-bar ending. That's why I agree the custom ending may be needed.

RealDrums were introduced in BIAB 2007 and RealTracks were first introduced in BIAB 2008(and then, if I recall, 2008.5 was the first major batch of new RealTracks, as the original implementation only had a handful - as I recall, but memories do fade).

So, it's kind of like RealTracks 1.0.

Back then, they were all WAV files and this was before we got the ElastiquePro implementation and natively using WMA files without having to expand them to WAV first. BIAB 2008 did NOT include the 4-bar ending to allow for decay. That came later.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'm also sure the 4-bar ending was added several years after 2008.

Quick sidetrack if I may, John. Aren't RealTracks as .WMA files still uncompressed first? I'm pretty sure they are. This is the basis for the slight speed increase when using the audiophile version. The Elastique algorithm (which is wonderful) allows for better pitch (and tempo) stretching hence only 1/3 the number of files are needed, but I don't think that's related to uncompressing .WMA. Unless something changed and I missed it...

If I remember correctly, Matt, when they first came out, the WMA files had to be uncompressed to WAV files before you could use them. They were not the audiophile version, but just uncompressed WMA's. It then left the WAV file in place (which of course took up space), but it used the WAV file the next time it needed it, so you saved the time to decompress. It was a later version (I can't remember which) that shipped with the uncompressed WAV files (audiophile version), and it was later that BIAB was able to deal natively with the WMA files, so you didn't have to uncompress first. When that happened is when we got the button that allowed you to clean up the now extraneous WAV files on your hard drive. Then later, the ElastiquePro allowed for fewer files needed to accommodate key changes, because it could better transpose the WAV files with a minimum amount of digital audio artifacts.

Thanks John. I remember everything as you do, except for the ability to deal natively with .WMA files.

If writing your own styles, you are restricted to MIDI styles as far as I know. That means a two bar ending.

If you want a held chord as an ending, and the MIDI patch you are using takes longer than two bars to fade out, it will clip at the end of the second bar.

If there is a way around that, I don't know of it.

My fix is to take advantage of that cut off, make all the instruments cut off at the end of the two bar ending and then at the very end cut off period, a little drum lick ending on the kick drum at the very end of that second measure (Live Drums - not the drum grid).

Then it makes the choked chord sound intentional instead of weird.

Thanks......it looks like I'd have little choice if I'm using 2008.

Appreciate the replies!
