I have the latest version of BIAB 2016 for PC (I have Windows 7) and all the latest Patches. I hadn't used the program for a while, but today I got out my songs to play along and I noticed many of the midi styles were automatically converted to Realtracks. And even the old realtracks were changed to some kind of new styles that sounded aweful! Despite my old tracks being frozen...

More importantly the Realdrum tracks all seem to be playing out of synch! I don't know why and when this happened but I hadn't used my BIAB for a few months and I think the last time I used it, everything was playing OK...

Any ideas or help?

There is a checkbox somewhere that allows you to prevent changing MIDI tracks to RealTracks. However, since the tracks were frozen, I don't understand why you have this problem.

There is another dialog to synchronize MIDI to audio. Are you using the same computer as you did when you made the tracks?

Following on from Matt...

If you go to "Options | Preferences | Realtracks", you'll find a check box to deactivate called "Auto replace midi styles...". (See image below. It's the highlighted option near the bottom of the graphic.)

Noel, thanks I saw that... but I'm wondering why would they make that a default... And if I am not mistaken, I used to have some of the drums in realdrums but now they sound totally different (and I don't know how to go back to how it was) I can't understand why? Also my PC is pretty fast, so I don't know why the out of synch thing is happening.

Hi,

If RealDrums are playing out of sync with MIDI tracks, that usually indicates an issue with MIDI driver settings.

If you go to Options - MIDI/Audio Driver Setup, is the Use VST/DXi Synth checkbox checked?

Thanks

Hi again,

I'm not quite following the above about Realdrums sounding totally different. Can you please provide some more information? (Since Realdrums are wav files and have always been wav files, I'm not sure how they can sound different. The files have not changed over the years.)

In relation to the 'out of sync' sound you are experiencing... please try the following three tests and report back...

ONE
1. Under the File menu, click on 'New'.

2. Type in a half dozen random chords.

3. Select a style that has Realtracks and Realdrums in it. (All track names will be written in green.)

4. Generate and play.

Is everything still out of sync?

It's very important to use the 'New' chord sheet and not simply load a pre-existing BIAB file that you have from the past. We need to establish that the problem is associated with BIAB and not past files.

TWO
Now repeat 1 to 4 above but this time select a MIDI-only style.

MIDI only styles do not have _ or = or M_ as the leading characters in the name. To engage the MIDI only style, you will need to disable the auto-subst. option I mentioned in the above post. You will also need to disable the autosubst. Realdrums for MIDI drums that's found under the Realdrums preferences. It is important to do this because we need to ascertain whether or not a 100% MIDI style with MIDI drums syncs correctly. (All track names will be written in yellow if everything is MIDI.)

When using MIDI only is everything out-of-sync or in-sync?

THREE
Lastly, repeat 1 to 4 above but this time, load a MIDI-only and have the autosubst. Realdrums enabled. This time all track names will be written in yellow with the exception of the Drum track which will be green.)

When using MIDI tracks with Realdrums is everything out-of-sync or in-sync?

Noel

I meant, the RealDrum style was different... the new style that was substituted is somewhat different.

Thanks I'll check the driver again. BTW, I use a Ketron SD2.

Hi Kent

I checked MIDI/Audio Driver Setup, the VST/DXi Synth checkboxes were not selected... I selected it but then the Midi sounds went to Coyote rather than the Ketron... so I unchecked it and checked it again a few times... then I got a dialog box pop up suggesting some adjustment about the latency... I said OK... after that everything worked OK... I had a back up of my old songs so I reloaded them, and everything played just like before... Who knows what the hell happened there. LOL. Maybe it was a temporary glitch. Maybe it's because I also restarted the PC, and that helped...

Anyway, thanks for everyone who helped.

Glad to read it's working again for you.

Restarting the computer is always a good first place to start in solving problems. Maybe it was as easy as that!

Noel
