you import a midi files and then add a style does it change the feel of the file of have no effect? Anyone mess around with this?
HP Win 11 12 gig ram, Mac mini Sonoma with 16 gig of ram, BiaB 2025, Realband, Reaper 7, Harrison Mixbus 9 32c , Melodyne 5 editor, Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL, Presonus control app.

Haven't tried it Rob, but as long as you're not removing any of the tracks from the MIDI file, and then adding a style on top of it, I suspect you're going to have a real mish mash.
What I mean is this. If you have midi file that has 7 tracks for instance, drums, bass, guitar, piano , strings, lead and a soloist (i.e., something made in BiAB and saved as a midi file) and then you add a style on top of that, you'll have two drummers, two guitar players, two of whatever styles you add, and they may all be playing different stuff at the same time.
It's going to sound very confusing, very messy, and very busy.
Also, since the MIDI file is just that, a file already fixed, it's not going to change the file at all.
What difference does a book cover make to the story inside? If you take a word document of Grimm's Fairy Tales, print it out and put it in a three ringed binder, or between two bound leather covers, does the story change because of the surroundings? The same with a midi file, the file is the file, and changing what's going on around it will not affect it.

If I want to apply a style, then I use the midi to generate chords when it loads and to grabe the melody, and sometimes a solo line. I strip out the other tracks or channels and then let BIAB take the other tracks.
If you do not do this, then a style is likely to become a problem with the already established tracks of a full midi file, unless you are very careful to choose and match midi song and a style.
Typically you can easilly determine the melody track or channel of the midi and use the sequence button to delete the other track or to get down to a lead sheet, then you can begin to apply styles to play the what if game as far as applying styles back to the song.

I do the same as Papa. I'm finding a lot of MIDI files have been created in some fashion as to cause them to not be quite in sync. probably done on the fly. I actually don't usually save anything unless there is an instrumental "hook" that's important to the song. I only will use the piano part from the style and then plug in RTs
