I love the intro generator however there is one thing that bugs me about it and I'm not sure this is modifiable as I couldn't find anything in the manual about this so here goes...

When the intro is generated in the song, and as I usually use Pop setting...

It creates the chords such as - G2, A6 etc.

Is there a way to set the system to only create major chords such as a "G, A, B,C...etc. No 2, 6, 5 etc. I tend to not use them and it's not a big deal to just change it to a straight major chord?

Thanks

Hi Tony,

I seldom use the auto intro as I roll my own intros. I insert 4-8 bars at the beginning and input my own chords. That way I can get exactly what I want. If you have more than one chorus just be sure to set the start chorus on the bar after the intro.

I hope this helps.

Hello Antho1965,

Thank you for your inquiry. At this time, there is not an option to force the auto intro feature to generate only chords without extensions. However, you could certainly edit the chords the program proposes and then regenerate over the new progression!

+1 to this suggestion. I sometimes generate to see what comes up and then roll my own or just write my own.

I rarely if ever use the "generate intro" feature.

I prefer to create my own custom intros and endings.

If you choose to use the auto generate function and it gives you "fancy chords", it's a simple matter to click on the chord... such as A5 and type a straight up "A" in there.

Tony,

Great question. I've used the Intro Generator and noticed results similiar to yours. I hope you will consider making a wishlist request for an option to limit the Intro Generator to simple, whole chords. Great idea, wish I had thought of it before you did! smile

Tony,

The below information might be useful when simplifying the auto-generated intro...

From the perspective of the large majority of popular music, most chords that are used are based on either major or minor chords. Any numerals that are added (e.g. 6, 7, 9, 7b9, etc.) are extensions of those major and minor sounds. In other words, the major or minor sounds are the cake and the numerals are the icing and decorations.

With the above in mind, simply leave out the numerals and keep the major or minor chords that remain.

Thus, a progression like: C6 F2 Dm7 G7 is based on C F Dm G and may be comfortably simplified to this.

Quote:
NOTE: chords that cannot be changed into simple major and minor chords are those that contain the following...

1. sus (such as Gsus, Asus4, Dsus4b9)
2. dim (such as Cdim, Adim7, D°) - the ° symbol is often used to mean 'dim'
3. b5 (such as Bmb5, Am7b5)
4. aug (such as Caug, G+) - often the + symbol is used for 'aug'

While 'sus' chords are reasonably common in pop music, the others (dim, b5, aug) are rarely met.

Hope this helps,
Noel

There used to be an option to "Jazz Down the Chords", I think, as well as "Jazz Up" though it may not have been called exactly that. I also don't recall if it applied to MIDI only. But I'm wondering if setting this might affect the chords chosen for the intro?

Like others, I usually form my own intros, but sometimes I generate an intro to give me hints on interesting chord extensions and progressions to audition in the body of my song because they are in the key signature and save time as I am developing my song and it gives me suggestions I may not think of myself.

Try these two settings, especially the second, and see if it helps:

Preferences, RealTracks, uncheck 'On Jazz RealTracks, JazzUp Triads to Sevenths'
Preferences, Overrides, check 'Force to Simple Arrangement'
