Folks,
I am new to the realm of MIDI. Will my Korg sound better with output from MIDI to my Roland amp? Just curious.
thanks, Bud

NO (unless your question is missing a few sentences?) If you can even SEND MIDI from the Korg SV1 to that Roland Amp, the amp would create ZERO, ZIP, NADA sounds. Which Roland amp by the way? I don't know of any Roland amps that even have a MIDI connection (but I may have missed that) Again, even if that amp has a MIDI connection (for whatever reason) it will NOT MAKE any (usable) SOUNDs. However, if you plug the Korg AUDIO OUT into the Roland Amp audio in, that's a whole other kettle of fish. That WILL sound better (since MIDI digital signals played as audio would sound, well like digital crap). If your question is: "Do sounds generated in the Korg coming from a external MIDI source sound better than playing the Korg keyboard directly?" Again, the answer is NO (I won't get into the power geek exceptions to this general statement) That is, given the same source material [PATCH, program or sound], selected by the external MIDI program and selected by you [to be played via the Korg keyboard by you], they should sound exactly the same MIDI is a protocol for communicating information between MIDI devices, like "note-on" or "note-off" or which patch/program/sound to trigger with that "note-on," etc. MIDI itself makes NO SOUND, but MIDI data sent over MIDI wire (5-pin DIN MIDI cable, or USB/FW/Ethernet used for MIDI comm) to a MIDI sound module/device will be turned into SOUND by that MIDI device. Analogy: Ethernet (or USB or...) does not print Word documents but it does allow a Word doc. to go to a printer, connected via Ethernet (OR USB or ...), to be printed. http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~nd/surprise_97/journal/vol1/aps2/ http://www.noterepeat.com/articles/how-to/213-midi-basics-common-terms-explainedLarry

Thank you! From a very neophyte MIDI user with some experience with BIAB and Norton fake book discs.
