BB 2016 Build 438 on Windows 10:
I have songs with repeats in different sections. When it comes towards the end of the song, it stutters, skips, hesitates and misses beats and resumes to finish.
I was suspecting if Windows Defender or Malwarebytes real time virus protection settings might be causing this problems, but disabling those programs do not seem to solve the issues... BB is unusable with these issues...
Anyone experience similar problems? Please help! Thanks.

jazzer,
Try this...
1. Right click on the chord sheet.
2. Select "Song Settings".
3. Near the bottom of the Song Settings menu there's an option that says "This song has playback problems, disable fast regeneration". Activate that.
4. Generate (it will take a little longer now) and see if that helps.
Regards, Noel

Hi Noel,
Your suggestion might have resolved the issues. Thanks. How did you figure this out, you must be a genius!
If our BB community brothers/sisters do not come to our aid on difficulties we would be wasting lot of time figuring out solutions... how can one find settings such as this "This song has playback problems, disable fast regeneration...", buried deep somewhere in BB settings? It's amazing and thank God we have created our fantastic BB network, with such veterans from Australia!...
Thanks again Noel.

Jazzer -
That feature was implemented for folks with less powerful PC's (whether it's CPU, available RAM, or hard disk performance). When BIAB starts a song, it generates enough to get it going and you hear playback almost instantaneously; however, it keeps generating the rest of the song in the background. Depending upon the horsepower of your computer, that background generation may interfere with the sound currently playing. Using this feature, it forces BIAB to completely generate all the tracks of the song before starting to play. That way, the generation isn't running in the background anymore while the song is playing.
Are you running BIAB from your local hard drive or from the external USB drive. If it's from the external drive, you may want to consider installing RT's/RD's to your local drive instead (which does take a lot of space, however). But that should improve the performance. You may also want to try using a different USB port for your drive (but make sure the drive letter doesn't change when you do that), or you may want to use the double cable to ensure that the drive is getting enough power. But in the end, the throughput of processing tracks from a local SATA drive is much higher than a USB-2 connection (assuming that's what you are using).

Thanks John for help. I am running BB from a local drive on my Laptop with 8gb RAM and 1tb HD on an Intel 5i processor.
The stuttering problem seems to occur whenever I have few repeats in the song and happens towards the end of the song. Tweaking the song settings generation speed seem to walk for now...I'll report if recurring later on.

Another thing to look at and consider is the sound card and driver mode as well as the latency and buffer settings. Both Sonar and Real Band really care about these settings on my computer. BB not so much.
Quite a few folks can simply increase the buffers a bit and that solves the "look ahead" issue.
I didn't think the program was generating in the background, because I always see it calculating and generating one track at a time on the top of the screen. It appears to generate all the tracks 100% and THEN.... it starts playing the song. This is true for both BB & RB. Of course, I am using the real track styles and not the midi styles.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I too have experienced this problem of stuttering and skipping bars since changing to Windows 10. It happens infrequently but is very annoying. I tend to think it is Windows 10 and not Band-in-a-Box because it did not happen previously.
Frankly Windows 10 is full of bugs and stupid programming decisions and, unlike this forum, Microsoft forums do not seem to come up with satisfactory answers.
