On my leadsheet window, the current bar indicator is one bar behind. What have I done?

Your first post! Welcome to the forum, we need more info.

This sounds like a latency issue or maybe an audio midi sync issue. What OS? Are you using the default MME driver or ASIO? And what version of Biab?

Yes, welcome. I can't think of any reason for that, but let's first get the basic info that jazzmammal requested.

BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

My problem with BIAB is getting frustrating. I am experiencing on and off lead sheet playback problems. The red notes don't keep up with audio, audio will slow and stutter, pages also sometimes don't turn in time. I have re installed my realtek audio driver 3x, re installed BIAB 3x. I am currently running a Microsoft malware full scan. My computer is a ASUS X751S 8gb ram 2.4 ghz. I have mme selected in drivers, set to coyote in plug in latency set at 1997. After re install that latency was 350 or somewhere around that Default ? at any rate I had huge latency at that setting so I entered a 2500 value and BIAB changed it to 1997. Spent long sessions on chat with Tech support, they have concluded this a audio driver issue. I am waiting for a reply from ASUS on this-delayed due to Thanksgiving in USA I assume. Also at times it all runs smoothly after re starting computer, as it did yesterday at a important Gig ??

Hi,

You mention "slow and stutter", this is usually a sign that computer resources are being pushed to the maximum.

See if this helps...

Right-click on the chordsheet and then select "Song settings" from the pop-up menu.

Once in Song Settings, select "Disable fast generation". Then 'OK' to exit.

Let us know the outcome.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. What is your operating system? You don't mention. Also, do you have any other music hardware connected to your computer (e.g. midi wind controllers, external sound modules, etc.)?

I'm not aware of a program setting where you could have done this.

This is a laptop, I presume? Realtek is recognized as just about the worst possible soundcard out there. You could do much better with a USB soundcard, which can be inexpensive like a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

With a better soundcard you can use ASIO, which should allow you to cut the latency considerably.

Maybe, but PG Music is a Canadian company. They could just be busy.

What version of Windows are you using, and what version of BIAB? The BIAB version makes a difference in other settings we could recommend.

Delay I was referring to was from ASUS tech support.

I am running win 10, yes a laptop.

That song setting did not work.

Looking at task manager and found a spike on local service host when this latency was happening again. It spiked up to 90% of disk.

Googled this and found a suggestion to run a system scan.

You mention that ASIO driver usb sound card, I thought I would need that(6 months ago)when I bought this ASUS, did not get it because when I hooked it up to my PA it really had good sound and this problem has been only occasional and thankfully has not happened on gigs (I started to get serious about fixing it before it does happen at a gig)

If I get a USB sound card as you suggest, will I use jbridge with it ? I bought it when I bought BIAB 2016.

Be aware that the song setting I showed you is for individual songs only.

If you set it for one song and then loaded another, you will need to set it for the new song, too.

It's worth trying the global setting to see if that makes a difference. To do this, go to "Prefs | Realtracks" and then deactivate the option "Speed up generation of Realtracks" (#2 on the image below).... it's worth a shot.

A couple of questions spring to mind...

1. What other software do you have running when BIAB is running?

2. What antivirus software do you use? (Some programs persistently check files and it might be necessary to excluding its checking of BIAB files. This has been a problem a number of times over the years.)

You asked about jbridge. Once installed, this works in BIAB seamlessly. It allows BIAB, a 32-bit program, to access 64-bit plugins like effects and VSTis, and even access more than the 4 GB RAM limit for those plugins. It's pretty cool.

The one thing a RealTek chip does OK is play audio back. Most people with a laptop only need that. Two problems: 1) BIAB is going to demand a lot more of your soundcard than just playing back a single audio track, and 2) that horrible 1/8" jack will go bad, and when it does, just hope no customer is in front of your PA speaker.

Try downloading the free utility, Latency Monitor, to see why you have something taking 90% of resources. More often than not, it's a wireless internet connection. The spike you see is CPU%, not disk (unless you have something really weird there).

I see a lot of things running in task manager, edge, avast etc these are normal ? The %'s of CPU usage are very low 8%-.01%. No Computer expert here...

I am using Avast and I went in and excluded c drive ,is that correct ? My Son will look at it later... I do have that setting already in RealTracks...

Going to set and save that "Disable fast generation"... in a set of tunes that I am preparing for my next show. I will be playing them 3x a day for the next week, see what happens.

Another thing that's worth trying is to...

1. Generate the song.

2. When it's fully generated, freeze all the tracks.

3. Save with a new file name... maybe some like

  • SongName - frozen.sgu

Next time you want to play, select the frozen version of the songfile and it will generate much quicker.

Just a thought.

Regards,
Noel

It's very undesirable to exclude all of C: drive, you just need to work out how to exclude the C:\bb\ folder (presuming that's where BiaB is installed).

Avast is a bit notorious these days in that it does a lot of checking back and forth with home base as well as advertising regularly. I use avast! but I always go for the custom install and only load the essentials.

I picked up the Scarlett 2i2 and all is good, I am getting a harsh beginning on some songs. It is that first sound after I hit space bar to start song. Other songs start smoothly, also I have not installed jbridge yet I had to message them because I need a password to open the zip.

Sounds good. I get that on my Scarlett (an 18i20) on occasion. It's annoying, and if it goes on a recording I just crop it out in an audio editor or my DAW. There are some known issues with a few of the Focusrite drivers under Windows 10, and there are beta drivers to try. Write to Focusrite Support. They are excellent and may have some suggestions. They respond quickly, too.
