Hello, I am useing 2009 Super Pak on new PC running Vista. I dont get much of an opporunity to use BIAB or RB but and with limeted knowlegde of how everything works but I am learning anf having a great time doing it. I will list my problems and hope you might be able to help. Thanks, Jerry

This program was first installed on my other PC useing XP. By all accounts everything loaded and had some help from fellow users to set up Midi/Driver setup. Not sure what setup chose for in and out but VST/DXI could be selected
I got a new PC from Best Buy and it only offered Vista. I reload to new PC and go thru setup and only option for midi/driver was midi mapper and could not select VST/DXI. Pro Audio also did not install..not sure how to use it but when time comes would like it there
Also, on XP PC I could use record fader where Vista said NO Wave Input devices are installed in Windows. I hope someone understands my writing and can help. Thanks

Exactly which version of Vista do you have? There is a known issue with 64-bit versions and the DXi synth.

Everyone here would love to help, but you gotta make some effort first. If you want to be proficient at this you gotta know your equipment. If you bought a new computer, did you not do a little research first or just walk in and say " I wanna computer!" That is kind of like wanting to be a race car driver and walking into a KIA dealer and saying "i wanna car!" to run complicated software you need specific things, and need to know what system you have.

Go to the start tab at the bottom of the page and click and find control panel, click and open thatm then find system and click and open that it should tell you the operating system bit type, and ram amount. Make notes on that and come back with that information here.

It's a big start.

The only DXi synth that is known to work with 64-bit versions of Windows is the Coyote Forte, available through PG Music. You can try it free for 30 days but must pay after that.

I have the same problem. As I cannot presently afford Forte, I am using an outboard hardware synth instead. It is a Roland JV-1010. Although it is several years old, it sounds great and, being hardware, has no latency (delay between the time a "Note On" command is sent and when the note is heard). However, you have an extremely powerful machine with lots of memory. Latency from a soft synth should not be much of an issue.

So your choices are pretty much Microsoft GS Wavetable, Coyote Forte, or hardware synth. Any General MIDI (GM) synth, such as an inexpensive Yamaha or Casio keyboard with MIDI or USB ports, could be used. (You would need an adapter for a standard MIDI connection.) Users here are recommending the Ketron SD-2 as the best GM synth they've ever heard. I believe that it is available through PG and from username "Mac".

Hope this helps.

Ok trying to tune in here and please excuse my lack of experience. I am taking steps as to understand what I have and broaden my abbility of use of product, and would like to approuch this one step at a time..this is best for me. So is Vista with 64 bit is not compatible with BIAB and or RB? If so is there a fix for this?

BIAB, RB, and all other PG Music products work fine with Windows x64. It is only the Virtual Sound Canvas (VSC) DXi soft(ware) synth, an accessory made by Roland which is several years old, which does not.

Your computer is a powerful PC which, I suspect, many of us envy. Vista is a fine operating system; it simply has its quirks, as does any Microsoft OS. As far as I know, the only one which affects music production is the fact that the Roland VSC does not work in a 64-bit environment.

In order to get MIDI sound better than the built-in Windows soft synth, you will need to spend a little more money. The Forte soft synth sells for around $40, the Ketron SD-2 for around $400. There are MANY choices in between. Windows' built-in synth will allow you to make music while you make a decision. Any music you make now can be routed through any synth you buy later.

Please do some reading, either on the website or in the book I recommended earlier. It will give you confidence about what to do next, and help to set your mind at ease about the choices you have already made (which are good ones). But feel free to keep asking questions. You are now a member of one of the most helpful communities I have found on the Internet.

The TTS-1 seems to come with all Cakewalk products and be highly regarded by its users. (It is not listed on the Roland site.) Surely some Cakewalk product owner could try this out on his 64-bit system and let us know? I'd spend $35 for Music Creator just to have it.

I have it, i bought MC5 and it came with TTS-1, and Sound center and Studio drums, and all play nicely in RB. But i do not have a 64 bit system so i can't answer that question. Hopefully someone will soon.

Roland TTS-1 WILL work in BIAB and Real Band using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. In BIAB, you may need to finagle it a little bit, by choosing to use DXi/VSTi and then telling it you don't want any synth in there, or BIAB will crash (at least on my system). However, once you get it selected, in both programs, it appears to work just fine.
