Does anyone know why Real band crashes every other time I adjust linear volume levels on a track? I don't want to delete portions of performances that I can cut and paste later, so I am using the level adjust on each track (+12 to -64)to move parts in and out. Thanks

Donnie,

Have you updated Realband with the lastest build? It's found at the below link. Realband is presently up to build #10.

http://www.pgmusic.com/support.realband.htm

If you haven't installed the above, doing so might solve the problem.

Regards,
Noel

Hi Donnie

It's always good to let us know what version of the program(s) you are running. Sometimes users ask questions about issues and eventually we find out that they are running a version that has been superseded many times.

Knowing the version / year of release is always helpful right from the start.

Programs crash for a variety of reasons but most often from corrupted operational files or driver compatibility issues.

Certainly, update to the newest version of Real Band with the updater. If you got the program on disk or hard drive, the chance of a corrupted file is slim. Most likely it's a driver issue.

So.... the driver are you using to run Real Band and BiaB will depend on the interface or soundcard. Most professional level and many consumer cards can run several different drivers as the need may be. The driver of choice, if your interface supports it, is ASIO. It handles the job better than the others and allows the soundcard/interface to do it's job to the fullest of it's design and intended use.

Most other drivers can have shortcomings of one sort or another, especially MME. And don't use a wrapper or a codec driver as they can be problematic as well.

I have done the upgrade on BB/RB to the latest build, mainly so I could add the new extra package. However, they both ran smoothly with virtually no issues before the update. I do have a Focusrite interface and use ASIO, so everything musically related runs like silk and has since day one.

Purchased the Audiophile version for Windows last month. It came as an update 7. I have updated to 10. (latest.) Still crashing every time I make a half dozen changes to tracks in Real Band DAW. BIAB works flawlessly. Very discouraging to my creative flow... Any other suggestions??? Thanks guys.

Describe the crash. Do you see any messages? Does the screen freeze?

I am experiencing consistent, regular crashes of the Real Band DAW as I attempt to work on my songs. The window that opens half the time is "Access violation at address 0040A0BF in module 'realband.exe'. Write of address 00000000."

Other times the window says, "Real Band has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I have no trouble with Band In A Box, only with Real Band.

Just shooting from the hip....

Do you have BIAB and RB open at the same time?
If so, is it possible the audio driver you are using doesn't like that for some reason and isn't happy sharing?

EDIT: maybe PG can glean some info from the error code you provided.

Continuing to ponder your dilemma.

Back to it....

I've tried it open/both, closed BB, off-line, etc. It still crashes. No answer yet from BB e-mail tech. We are trying the above mentioned ASIO fix. My interface is a Behringer 302USB. Again, the card and the interface work perfect with BB, but RB crashes every time I make a few edits/adjustments to tracks.

Don't lose any sleep, friend. It's just a computer. It will eventually comply. Thanks a bunch.

Tough one. A call to Support may be needed here.

One thought: your problem arises after making several changes in RealBand. I wonder if it's RAM-related? How much RAM is in your computer? And can you run Memtest overnight to check that it's OK?

Using any VST plugins that may be causing it?
That's usually the cause here when this (rarely) happens. I usually find I'm using a plugin that isn't playing nice with others. Removing it fixes everything.

No. This started right from the get-go. I create the tracks I want in BIAB, then open that saved file from RB in the Tracks view. It loads perfectly. It plays the tracks. I start editing individual tracks and after three to five edits it crashes, or if I try to save edits it crashes on the third or fourth attempt. It also crashes when I start and stop the play-back several times in a short while. It's like it can't keep up with the data I am asking it to handle. This is really frustrating. Everything else is perfect and I was just beginning to think I may be a budding producer!

My next suggestion would be checking the Temp Audio Directory in Preferences.
Many overlook this, but it is where all these Edits get stored. If it is the same as the OS (C: drive), or worse yet an external drive, I can see this causing streaming/performance issues and errors.

Just trying to help.
Maybe a remote session with PGMusic staff is in order; they could see/test the issue in real time.

Thank you. We went to Audio Temp Directory. Not sure what to look for there but also ran the Audio Performance Test. Result was 913.

I've been following your experiences and frustrations with BIAB and RB both here and on Facebook. RealBand is a DAW and every other software you'll try will be a software program subject to all of the frustrations and experiences you've had with RealBand. There is one option no one has recommended and likely most others won't recommend but you will be able to absolutely record with no crashes and have every DAW and every DAW's features still accessible to you if you wish or you can bypass DAWs and have worry free, stable recordings. It really is that simple. The quality of the pre-amps, and effects are capable of producing commercial release material.

Purchase a new or used stand alone digital multi track recorder. They have a proprietary and very stable DAW that does basic editing and will provide basic but very stable effects that will allow you to record, arrange, produce and perform projects completely from start to finish without a computer or DAW. I have owned a stand alone unit of some type since the 1980's and have never had one crash. I currently own three. If I were to recommend a device to you, from my experience, a Tascam DP-32SD is the easiest and most complete stand alone unit and has the most versatile features. For some reason, they are currently the same price as the Tascam DP-24SD and are virtually the same other than track count and some small differences addressing stereo tracks. The DP-24 and DP-32 use the same OS and DAW and effects. They store audio on SD cards and can be USB connected to a computer for file transfers to and from the computer to the unit so it's quite easy to generate and transfer BIAB tracks to the device.

Though, I do not own one, a friend of mine does. He love his stand alone digital multi track recorder. He showed it to me one day when he was recording. Pretty neat how it works.
