Hi, I use Open Office Spreadsheet to catalog some BIAB stuff.

My problem with the Spreadsheet is: <example> if I type in a word Checked and then want to use Check. It wants to use Checked using what I call "type ahead". I want to turn that "feature" off. Can't figure how to do that. At the top of the menu area there is an Auto Spell Check. That's turned off and it still wants to "type ahead".

Any help?? Thanks

I don't use OpenOffice for several reasons -- it just doesn't/didn't do sometimes what I want to do.

But here might be the answer to your question: https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOoAuthors_User_Manual/Writer_Guide/Using_word_completion

Try Tools-Options-Language-WritingAids

My Autocorrect options does not have the tab in the example above.

(1) thanks guys for the responses.

"My Autocorrect options does not have the tab in the example above"

Odd I don't have that option either however I unchecked everything in the "Tools-Options-Language-WritingAids"
Under the Option section and that has stopped the "type ahead".

Solution found. Thanks again.

Be aware many developers for Open Office moved to Libre Office. There have been several articles detailing how Open Office is having trouble publishing fixes due to lack of developer support. The person in charge of Open Office has indicated the next step is to close down the project due to lack of support.

Libre Office is also open source and freeware. You can find out more about it ++ HERE ++

Trying using backspace or left arrow, or maybe down arrow (and then enter). One of those will delete the anticipated ending.

I haven't used OpenOffice for a little while but I know that a simple keystroke is all that's needed to shortcut the anticipation.

Once two choices of a word begin similarly, anticipation ceases.

Jim, thanks for the link. I'll download it later.

While looking at OpenOffice Wiki Manual. I saw an entry showing an update 2007 ???? What ??

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the link Jim. My Open Office has been acting a bit buggy.

I used to be an open office user, but have pretty much joined the dark side with Google docs, as I can use it from my windows lappy and my iPhone without issue. I use the word processor for taking down lyric ideas wherever I'm at.

Meh. Spent the money and bought Microsoft Office. It's only money, and I have no interest in denying myself things I want and will use now while trying to become the richest corpse in the graveyard. Free software is free for a reason. Office IS a little expensive but the integration of all those moving parts is so seamless that I like being able to take something from "this" and paste it right into "that". I use Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook and (when I worked) Visio and OneNote. Now, I need to say that my work experience supporting that suite of programs led to the fondness. Supporting close to 1000 users on those products meant I used them every day and got deep into the bowels of them because the calendars and chat program and such were all used slightly differently by every user.

But with the Microsoft commercial behind me and back to the original question, the type ahead thing, if the type ahead populates something you don't want, just hit the space bar before you hit enter. That will change the search string and there will be no match for it to auto populate. Can't imagine one keystroke disturbing work flow that much.

I am still using MS Office 97 Pro. It works fine in Win 10. I just make sure that I do not read any doc files from someone I don't know.

The fitness trainer asked me, "What kind of a squat are you accustomed to doing?" I said, "Diddly."

Mario,

In case you or others don't know it, older versions of Office can read documents created in current versions of Office by installing a compatibility package.

Microsoft offers the compatibility package for free ++ HERE ++

Yes I know but thanx for bringing it up.

I don't open docs from anyone I don't know or trust as I do not want to get infected. By trust I mean I know quite a few people who are not as virus/malware conscience as they should be.
