How can I get the solo track out of a MIDI.KAR file to see notes on a staff with BIAB?

I have BIAB 2005 and Trying to get the solo track from vanBasco's Karaoke Player.

Thanks

open it up in any midi DAW software and delete the ones you don't want. I use either Powertrsacks or MC from cakewalk. If you want a freebie download reaper from Cockos.com and just drag the midi file to the left hand area, and it will open delete all but the solo or melody track what ever you want and resave under a new name.

Thanks Robh. I found my PowerTracks in "programs" but I cannot open up the software. My Disk is not close at hand. I have a IBM T52 with 2004 XP Pro.

Any suggestions?

If PowerTracks is in 'programs', you should be able to fire it up. Alternatively you might take advantage of the BiaB Sequencer feature. It's easy to isolate parts there. The Sequencer feature was likely added to the feature list with the release of BiaB 2006, though.

Open up the PTW Folder via Windows then search and click the file PTW....Application to open the program. You can add an Icon to your desktop to make future access easier.

when opening the KAR. MIDI file with BIAB I can see the melody Terble and bass staff. Is there a way that I can see the solo staff?

I was playing around with Power Tracks and found how to do this. Click on tracks. Highlight the track that you want and then hit the note icon.

Thanks.

Hello,

If you hear the soloist playing in Band-in-a-Box, you should be able to see the notation. If the entire file was imported to the Melody track, you could open the sequencer window (green SEQ button in toolbar). You can use this window to locate the soloist part of the MIDI/kar file, then you could move that part to the Band-in-a-Box Soloist track so it can be viewed on a separate track of notation.

You should be able to extract one instrument by just using Band-in-a-Box. Click on Edit | Copy/Move Tracks, and then choose which channels you want to be transferred to the Soloist track.

Nope, I have BiaB 2005 and it only sees one track, Melody.

Another reason for upgrading -> the otherwise much cited Sequencer button was introduced with BiaB 2006 ...

Alternatively you may try to identify the channel number for your solo track (piece of cake with PowerTracks). Importing the midi file selecting just this very channel would then be your ticket.

Since BIAB 2005 doesn't have the Green Sequencer button, then a different method should be used, as Martin has suggested.

After opening the KAR file, use the Melody Import feature (it's one of the submenus on the Melody menu). This will allow you to select which channels to import. If you don't know which channel the solo is on, then just try them one at a time (killing the solo between each iteration) until you get it. Once complete, the solo will be on the soloist track. Since it's also contained within the MIDI/KAR file also, you may want to just mute the soloist track, so it's not doubling up. But you should be able to see the notes being played. Depending on how the MIDI file itself was created, you may have to play with some of the other import parameters to import the solo in at the right place in the song.

You really need to upgrade to biab 2009, and start using Real Band with the .kar files it is so slick
