Hello, I am new to this forum,

I recently purchased Band in a Box 2016 and it functioned for about a month.

Now when I run it, the little splash screen above the icon in the bottom tray shows up, but the program does not continue to load.

If I try and close the "splash screen" by clicking the red X in the top right corner, nothing happens.

If I try to run Band in a Box again, two splash screens will appear, as if multiple versions of the program are running.

The only way I can terminate the program is to use the task manager.

I called PG music, and the woman told me to reboot and to make sure that the BBW.EXE ran as administrator, which I did. No luck. She mentioned she is not a technical support person, and I need to call next Monday for tech support, which seems OK to me. But if someone can help me now it would be great to get this behind me.

I can't tell you the exact version of Band in a Box I have because it won't load. I am running windows 10 home edition on a computer with an i7-4790, 16 gigs memory, an RME UCX with latency set to maximum. There is plenty of space on all drives. The computer is stable except for Band in a Box. Just for fun, I ran the Realband ap and it loads up just fine.

Welcome to the forum. That's a terrific problem statement; great info. Sorry you are having trouble.

Try going into the /BB folder, delete the file called intrface.bbw (note the wrong spelling). Reboot and restart, and report. And yes, always run BIAB as Administrator.

Just to clarify, I believe the general recommendation is:

"Try deleting the files "intrface.bbw" and "mysetup.dk" from the Band-in-a-Box folder (usually C:\BB). This will return the program to factory settings."

That has the bad spelling and includes one other start up file.

But generally Matt has it right so maybe this is old??

Jazzmandan is correct; there are two files to delete. But it's the intrface.bbw file that sometimes causes the program not to boot. The other one just has some drums preferences but appears not to be of much importance to starting the program.

However, yes, delete both and see.

EDIT: I see despite my best efforts, my iPhone won't let go of the correct spelling of that file. I just fixed it using my desktop PC. Thanks.

Bingo!

Seems to be OK now.

The file was intrface.bbw

I never noticed this forum before. I have been on the Cakewalk Sonar forum since the DOS3 version of Cakewalk.

I mostly use Band in a Box for creating the drum midi files, which I import into Sonar for song building.

Thanks for the help

Great! Glad to help.

You're obviously a very careful and thorough person. You should be able to assist others here in short order.

OK this is the follow up, just for completeness.

You need to delete both files.

Deleting the intrface.bbw file got my screens working again. but I was getting error messages that there was no bass drum, snare drum, hi hat, etc assigned to the midi drum synth.

When I went back and deleted the intrface.bbw and also the mysetup.dk the error messages went away.

Suerte!

Hi Greg and welcome to the forum. You'll likely notice the Cakewalk forum and this forum have many members in common.

Antivirus programs also tend to slow Band-in-a-Box and RealBand's initial start up times or prevent the programs from starting up. You need to go to your antivirus program settings to exclude the Band-in-a-Box and RealBand programs from being scanned each time they are scanned.

The programs to exclude are BBW.exe for Band-in-a-Box and RB.exe for RealBand.

It's quite interesting that I have been using BIAB since the late 1990s, but had never encountered the drum kit error condition until this past weekend.

BIAB would not initialize at all, so I remembered to delete the interface file, which fixed that problem; however, I had forgotten about the .dk file.

A quick search of the forums led me here. Thanks for the help!

Joel, that's easy to forget. The reason is that most of the time, even with a problem, you don't have to do this (delete the two files) because that's exactly what Return to Factory Settings does. BIAB automatically recreates them. And, of course, you've seen Return to Factory Settings recommended here regularly. It's a rare occasion however when actually deleting the two files manually is needed. Why, I don't know.

Well, it's probably because the old farts like us never read the manual, and have no idea that we don't need to bootstrap the computer and then feed the punched cards through the reader... wink

Well, it's good to be back. I always seem to start lurking around the forums at this time of year...eagerly awaiting the next release... As far as my thousands of post in the past (back in the old forum days), no, not anymore. I'm no expert in the latest stuff; I just occasionally generate a quick soundtrack and dump it to mp3. Thanks!

Just had this same issue with BB build 438. Deleting both files intrface.bbw and also the mysetup.dk in the C:\BB folder did the trick. Thanks much!
