Is anyone out there using any of these? Once or twice I got them to work (sort of) but never consistently. I reinstalled them on my new machine and am having ZERO luck getting them to work. I can get sounds to play clicking on the VST GUI keyboard, but not from any of my MIDI Ins... It seems to want a CC2 breath control to use a woodwind controller (like a WX-7) but does not seem to recognize it (or when it is set up as a VST on a Melody track.) These were pretty costly, but their documentation is slim, and support on the condescending side.

Thanks !! That one addresses licensing errors (which I spent hours on before realizing had to hit "Play" on BIAB for the SWAM engine to prompt me for my key. My licenses are now fine. Getting them to make noises like a saxophone is now my issue ..

They are fantastic instruments so give them chance. They require expression pedal or wind controller to get a sound. You can map modulation wheel to expression if you don't have an expression pedal. Once this is sorted you can play a wind instrument expressively from your keyboard. I recommend a wind controller as the most natural controller. Once you have sorted the operation I think you will find that they are the best saxes you have ever heard from a keyboard.

Are you trying to use these in Biab? If so I wouldn't even think of that. Stuff like this is best used in Real Band or other DAW. There are good vids on this too, here are a couple. First using a keyboard:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUxtA2MFkZQ

You can see him using the mod wheel and volume pedal with his foot. Here's one using a wind controller:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42hrU8g6_oE

I'm a keyboard guy so I don't know all about wind controllers but I hear volume and modulation happening here. I assume a sax player can control that with his breath and mouth similar to a real sax.

Occasionaly someone will ask if they can use something like this as a VST instrument plugin inside Biab so it can play a prerecorded midi melody line. Yes you can but all the expression will be lost because the GM spec does not allow for that. All the expression you hear in a library like this comes from you the player using a dedicated controller, not from Biab.

Funkycornwall :

Do you actually USE them with BIAB?? As I said in my original post, I have a WX-7 Which functions perfectly with other VSTs (like Coyote.) I also just acquired a Roland AE-10.

I did just get these to work (no finesse yet, but at least sound.) The WX-7 is very choppy, but I got the AE-10 to work (but had to lie and say it was a keyboard.)

The main issue with the SWAM engine is that unlike other VSTs it does not recognize ANYTHING until I hit "Play." I think this is just bad programming. NOTHING shows up until the song ha actually started.

Anyway, I'll have to find out if there is a way to swap CC2 and CC11 on the Roland. The breath data is important, and Roland, for some reason decided to buck the standard used by WX and EWI.

Thanks,

Hi there
I have used these instruments in Reaper not BIAB. I used the TEC wind controller so play notes on keyboard which only sound when I blow into the TEC. Advantage for me is can play expressively with rise and fall on notes. Also makes you start to phrase like a real sax player.
Cheers
Tony

I AM a real sax player... smile This is more of a "proof of concept" for me. It would be nice to have a totally "un-tethered" setup with my Surface Pro and a controller to do single performances. The sax sounds on the AE-10 are kind of bogus.

So in Reaper, did you have to hit "PLAY" before the SWAM engine recognized anything?? That's what finally occurred to me. I couldn't even add my LICENSE until I hit "play." I've never seen that behavior in a VST before.
