I just upgraded from BIAB/RB 2014 to 2017 and love it. However, my VSTs disappeared. I got them loaded successfully in 2014 a few months ago, and I know that somewhere on this forum is how I learned to do it. Problem is I can't find that post again. I have some effects that came with Cakewalk Music Creator 6 that I'd like to load. Anyone?

No, false alarm......After more hacking I found that the VST plugins load automatically from the Windows Programs folder. For those with the same question, go to Windows/VST Plugins to see all VST's that are on file from various programs. I found that RB picked up all those to make them available from the VST button in RB.

John not to nit pick but that is not correct information. Just for others reading this who may not know: DX's and DXI's are "automagically" made available in RB and BIAB (and PTPA for all that matter) because Direct X (DX's and DXi's) are easier for RB/BIAB to find when they scan for "new" ones. Direct X items (MFX) are listed in the registry in ONE location). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX_pluginNow VSTi's and VST's are not all placed in the Registry (and VST's and VSTI's are not the same as DX's and DXi's). And even when they ARE "installed" in the Registry they are not always in the same location in the Registry nor are the associated .dll's all stored in the windows/VST Plugins folder. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology As a matter of fact unless you made that folder NO VST's are stored in the "windows\VST Plugins" Maybe "C:\Program Files\VST " or maybe "C:\Program Files\VstPlugIns" or maybe "C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins " or maybe "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins " or maybe "C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins " or maybe "C:\Program Files (x86)\VstPlugins " or maybe "C:\Program Files(x86) \Cakewalk\VstPlugins " or maybe "C:\Program Files\BlueCat\Vsts " or maybe "C:\I told installer here\plugins\" …. I suspect what you are seeing that you THINK are VST's in RB are in actuality DX's (compare the list you see to the list in the "DXPluginList.ini" file in the RealBand folder 100% of VSTi's (synths and instruments) and VST's (audio FX) have to be added MANUALLY into BIAB and RB and PTPA one at a time (they are retained once added but they have to be manually added by pointing to where they are on first desired use - and those locations can be in multiple folder locations over multiple drives) Larry

If a VST or VSTi is in the registry, that is generally for licensing information (because you had to enter a license code to activate the VST/VSTi).
