I can't seem to find a way to create a 2 beat bar in a 4/4 song in RealBand. I found an old post (probably pre RB) saying to highlight the bar in question and use bar settings to change the beats for that bar to 2, then increase the beats to 4 for the following bar but in RB if I highlight the bar to be reduced and click on the bar settings button I can't find any reference to beats per bar.

I'm sure there must be a way to do this ? Any kind member got an explanation please?

I use the Meter window in RB/PT to Insert the changes you mentioned.

In RB, remember to regenerate the desired section.. see image below

Hi rharv,

Thanks very much for your prompt reply. I had looked at the meter screen you show above but didn't see how that would indicate beats per bar (and sorry, I still don't quite see it). In the small meter event window should the Numerator be set at 16 (rather than 15 as shown in your example and the Denominator at 8 to give two beats ? .....and do you then have to reset the next following bar...(to what?) Could you perhaps a little more fully for me please. As a relative newbie it would be much appreciated.

I had to finish the song I was working on in BIAB instead of RB as I did find how to reduce 4/4 bars to 2 beats in BB. I'm hoping to be able to load this track into RB and continue working on it there as I like the methods of enhancing and overdubbing the track better in RB.

Having spent around thirty years making manually created backing tracks (programming drums, playing live bass, rhythm, acoustic & lead guitars, pedal steel, banjo, some keyboard strings, piano etc.) I suddenly saw a way of creating basic tracks in a fraction of the time and loved the RealBand way of working. Quite a few of the tracks I've done over the years had the occasional 2 beat bars and I found it easy to program the drums for the odd 2/4 bar. I can't understand how a program as sophisticated in other ways doesn't have an obvious button (like the bar settings button in BIAB) to be able to quickly create this without having to work around it. Unless I'm seriously overlooking something simple maybe it should be suggested in the RB wishlist?

Regards

Kevin.

In that window set it to 2/4 .. 2 as numerator, 4 as denominator.
In the next measure set it back to 4/4 .. or whatever you started in.

RB is very good at handling time changes. I used the weird numbers in my image because you can!
BiaB is more limiting in this respect. In RB you can generate in 15/8 if you want to.

I find stuff like that fun..

Right click the bar... use bar settings. Change the beats per bar. DO the same thing in the next bar to return it back to 4/4 time by setting the beats per bar back to 4.

Thanks Guitarhacker. I tried your solution but can't see any option to change bar beats when right clicking bars in RB ??

If I right click on a bar I get drop down menu of 4 items......Options, MIDI Chord Wizard, Custom MIDI Chord Wizard and Bar Based section letters. None of these menu options seem to allow for beats in bar to be changed.

Is your solution relevant to BIAB rather than RealBand ?

First image: Insert a bar of 2/4 at Bar 3
Click OK; second image shows result.
In second image I am about to click OK on changing the next bar (4) back to 4/4.

Yeah thanks rharv. I already managed to get your way to work fine thank you ....but thought I would give Guitarhackers method a try but as said.....I don't get any right click bar / beat change.

Thanks for your method though...it works great

Yeah, that doesn't work here either. Must be a BiaB thing.
