First, this is what I would like to do/have in Biab 2017 (with the newest patch installed): Coyote Forte (which i paid, years ago) as the default synth, the new Sforzando for Hi-Q and the available Sample Tank for special instruments sound. Unfortunately, it is impossible for me to load Forte as the default synth, although I already got help from Larry and others in a post about Sforzando. I ran to my BiaB 2016 which I have on a separate disk, and there it works. I HAVE Coyote Forte as the default synth. OK, I have then copied all files which I think were in relation with the case (Forte dxi.dk, VSTiplugins.init, etc...) but it stills does not work... I see (to set up the default synth) some other VSTi which are in the 2016 file, but not the coyote Forte. Question: does any body have/use Coyote Forte and experience the same problem? Question: how to solve this? Question: How do I include snapshots from my system in posts? I only see the possibility of inserting URLs and not images directly... Bernard

No reason this should not be all doable. Granted I have only a bit of experience with 2017 (new to us all), but I did all this with prior verisons.

Start over- reinstall Forte and then open BIAB - this is a pretty simple setup.

Ya, you have to upload to the web and then copy the URL. Try free dropbox.com, works like a charm
I would re-install Forte, but make sure you right click on the installer and select "Run as Administrator". That will make sure everything that needs to be written to the registry gets written there.

Here are some photos of what I am trying to do (in vain). 1) This screen shows option/Midi when I open it in BiaB 2017 (note Forte apears under Synthethiser/Sound card) 2) This shows the default Synth in BiaB 2017 (none set) 3) This shows the choice of synths I have (BiaB 2017). Trying in this screen Options/scan/new does not bring anything... 4)This is the sreen showing when I try to add Coyote Forte under VSTi or and VST. 5) This is what I have (copied frm BiaB 2016) under VSTi Plugins. Bernard
YOU CAN'T LOAD FORTE AS A VSTI!!!! IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.
It will either be in your list of existing synths or it won't. But you do not select the DLL, because it is a DXi (DirectX Instrument), not a VSTi. They are handled completely differently, even though they accomplish essentially the same thing. And once Forte is installed, DO NOT move any files to a different location. That will definitely keep it from working.
If Forte is properly installed, then it will appear in your drop down list (you may have to rescan the plugins to see it), but you don't use the "Load VST/VSTi" command at all.
Did you try to re-install Forte using "run as administrator"? Did you rescan your plugins (click the options button on the DXi/VSTi screen to access that feature)?

OK, OK, JFord, dont shout at me, I am experiencing my first nervous breakdown with BiaB!!! I understand the argument about Forte not beeing a VSTi, but I just dont know what to do. I HAVE re-installed Coyote Forte, this time extra as an administrator and it does not make any difference. What kills me is that everything is working perfectly under BiaB 2016. Of course I want to use the new version. I have tried to copy a certain number of files from 2016 to 2017, but nothing changes... What "confuses" me is that in BiaB 2016, Forte does apear under the VSTi list as you can see in the photo. I have now understood that Forte SHOULD be there as the default when I open BiaB, but it does not... Bernard
1. where are you running BIAB 2017 FROM - external Hard drive or did you install it to your internal drive? IF running from external drive I think you need to do a minimum install? I don't run form external drive but others who do have had similar issues in past and there is an easy fix I just don't recall what it is
2. Did you set BIAB 2017 to run as administrator?
3. Have you found the "DXiPluginList.ini" file in your BIAB 2017 \BB directory? If so rename it,or delete it, and run BIAB again (as Admin) and re-scan for new DX's.
4. Find the file called "dxplugexclude.ini" open in text editor and ensure that Forte is NOT listed in that file - if so delete that ONE LINE from the that .ini file
EDIT
random thought - hail Mary pass: in your BIAB 2016 \bb directory find the "DXiPluginList.ini" and try to COPY that file to your BIAB 2017 \bb directory (which DOES HAVE all your DXi plug-ins correctly listed)

Thanks for the help, but i think I have done all that... To your points: 1) BiaB (2017) is directly on my computer, as it was for all versions since 2007, no change here. I have only set 2016 on a hard drive to see where the differences are. 2) I run BiaB and RB as an administrator. 3) I have found DXiplugin (configuration file) and copied there what I found in the same file from 2016 (with forte). 4) Just the same, i have checked the dxplugexclude file, and it does not include Forte. Random thought: I have copied the content of DXi plugin 2016 into 2017 and I dont get Forte as the default synth in the first place (that is when I open BiaB and Options/Midi settings) and scanning for a new synth under "default synth" does not bring anything... Reason why I am a bit puzzled... My only solution at the moment is to open BiaB 2016 and everything works properly...
This definitely seems to be a conundrum, especially with the fact that it runs with 2016 (which means it is installed properly).
Did you do a fresh install of BIAB2017, or did you install over the top of your 2016 version.
This is not required, but here's what I do with each new version of BIAB.
1. Backup the BIAB and RealBand folders (my RTs and RDs are in a different location, so I just add the new stuff to those folders). I usually just click on the BIAB folder (on my computer it's D:\Apps\PGMusic\BIAB) and hit copy, then paste in the same location. Once copied (it takes awhile because it's large), I then rename the resulting "BIAB - Copy" to "BIAB2016". Likewise for RealBand.
2. Install the new version on top of the original BIAB folder. The only thing I deselect is the PDF driver (and previously SampleTank, since I have the full version of SampleTank already installed).
3. Run the new program. It has always worked fine and all my synths and effects are already listed as they were in the previous version.
If you have no luck, then maybe one of us can initiate a remote access session to figure out what is going on.
I also just had a thought, which probably isn't it, but I wonder if the problem has to do with German versus English version. I know there have been a few problems associated with that (which get fixed when reported). I'm not sure of the process to (temporarily) set your system to English, but that may be something to try. One of our other international friends may have the commands to do that. Just trying to think out of the box to help.

I use the english version from the begin on (2007) and load every year the new version directly on the previous one. I have made a copy of my first message to PG support but did not get a confirmation they have received it...
Thanks for the advice, but I think a direct contact would be a bit long, specially if I have to report all the things i have already tried. I have made a resume of what has been said in the post and sent it to support. See whether they can help... Thanks again for your efforts to help. Bernard
Live chat can lead to remote session support where the PG Techs can take a look at your machine to see why it may not be working properly. I've seen lots of folks post on the forum that it worked well. Seems worth a try.

(a) MIDI out is set to UM-1G (#1 on the image below);
(b) MIDI setup and patch map is set for Coyote Forte (#2 below);
(c) There is no VSTi/DXi synth driver selected (#3 on the image below).
With the above in mind, try the following as an experiment...
1. Set #1 to Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth (this is sometimes necessary to get VSTi/DXi synths playing).
2. Leave #2 as it is.
3. In relation to #3 on the image above.... click on this drop-down menu button and see if Coyote Forte is available. If it is, select it and OK your way back to BIAB's chord sheet.
(If Coyote Forte is not available, just for the purposes of this experiment, try selecting Coyote WT and see if that works. Exit back to the chord sheet.)
4. Close and restart BIAB.
5. Load a MIDI style, generate it and let it play for a bit.
