Hi, The below URL is to Pat Pattison's homepage - professor of songwriting and poetry at Berklee College. If you follow the Video link, it will take you to a few videos that are snippets from Pat's workshops on songwriting. These are new to his website and I thought that they might be of interest to the songwriters amongst us. http://patpattison.com/home/ Pat is amazing. I've been to a number of his workshops and each time I go, I just continue to learn more and more. In fact, I was at my eighth weekend workshop with him two weeks ago. Australian songwriters are lucky that he likes the Aussie sunshine  If you're serious about songwriting and get a chance to go to Pat's workshops, take advantage of the opportunity, it will be well worth it. Lastly, just in case someone here is not aware of this information, Pat has also written three books that are available through amazon.com. These books approach, and teach, songwriting from a unique perspective. They are quite different from the usual songwriting manual. I continually re-read all his books because I find them incredibly helpful. Regards, Noel

Your songs are already terrific. Based on my experience, I have no doubt that Pat will be able to offer you some insights that will lift your ability even further. All three books work as a perfect partnership and are well worth having.

That is what I like about this discussion board. I never knew this guy, but I really like the videos because one of the things I think we lack in many songs today is the use of melody and going beyond the formulas that have built a deep rut at least in the genre I listen to. I am going to forward this link to my students.
