What rhythm/backup tracks have you got for practicing your fiddle tunes?
Essentially I would like to be able to name a Bluegrass/OldTime tune and find the appropriate style (which will probably be transferable to another tune).
For example, what BIAB Style would you use on:
1. Stone's Rag (or indeed any rag: Beaumont, Red Apple etc).
2. Bill Cheatham, Devil's Dream, Miller's Reel etc.
3. Kentucky/Tennessee Waltzes.
4. Faded Love and Maiden's Prayer.
Appreciate any advice.
Cheers

With so many different versions of any of your sample songs, it's tough (at least for me) to make a style recommendation. If you could pick a youtube example of what you had in mind, and post a link, that may work.

Thanks!

Lloyd,

Here's a couple of YouTube links: "Stone's Rag" https://youtu.be/C_LvJVtuq3A

"Maiden's Prayer" https://youtu.be/NS60OAE6Xs0

"Bill Cheatham" https://youtu.be/18GuzW37wcU

Await your advice.

Thanks.

Stone's Rag: try _BLUGRSF.sty
It's a RealStyle and it works at a tempo about 95.
If you want to stick with MIDI styles, try C_2Bt_sw.sty

Maiden's Prayer: try -CS128^7.sty at about 75
Or (very similar) -C_CONWY.sty or C~CRYSTL
For RealStyles, _PNOC128.sty or _CMPFBHF.sty is much simpler.

Bill Cheatham: try _OLDTIME at about 105 or HBSE110.sty for a more "Celtic" feel. For MIDI, try Mountain.sty or C_JETHRO.sty, (with the 105 tempo).

If these aren't exactly what you're after, let me know and I'll look some more. It will help if you let us know MIDI vs RealStyles and/or which version of BIAB you're running.

Good luck!

Lloyd, you're a bloody genius..!! grin
Thank you for these suggestions.
I'll try them tonight.

I'm running 2015 BIAB Pro, but may upgrade this month to 2017.
I have RealTracks Set 8 - Country Folk
RealTracks Set 11 - All Bluegrass (Rhythm)
RealTracks Set 12 - All Bluegrass (Solos)
Styles Set 17 - Unplugged
RealTracks Set 33 - Bluegrass Medium Tempo

I would like to use BIAB for back-up tracks to improve my timing on fiddle tunes.
I also have a number of MIDI files for Celtic tunes.

Your further advice appreciated especially if you perhaps think I should upgrade the 2017 package to Mega or perhaps get some further RealTracks. My needs are modest..!!

Thanks.

I'm likely the wrong person to ask about upgrading because "Santa" brings me an upgrade every year! All of the upgrades are very good value in my opinion. If you can find it in your pocketbook to acquire all the current styles, then I would go for it.

If that's not in the budget, then you might consider just upgrading the program itself, and then save up for a future upgrade.

Not sure what you mean by "back-up tracks". If the styles and RealTracks you listed are the only ones you have, you'll likely find yourself wanting more.

If you don't have my suggested styles, let me know and I'll see if I can come up with something else. Let us know what other styles sets you might have, if any.

Good luck!

Lloyd,

What I meant by "Back-up tracks", was a rhythm track to back my melody.

I checked your recommendations, and I don't have the following styles:

-CS128^7.sty
C-CONWY.sty
C~CRYSYL
_PNOC128.sty
_CMPFBHF.sty
_OLDTIME.sty
HBSE110.sty

Would it be possible for you to copy these styles and send them to me as an e-mail attachment? Or is there a recommended repository of BIAB styles?

That would be fantastic.

Thanks.

harry,

You mention that you have the 2015 ProPak edition of BIAB. Because this is the entry level package for BIAB, there are many styles, Realtracks, Realdrums and Midi Supertracks that will not be present in your package. (The UltraPlusPak is the cheapest package that contains everything.)

You need to talk to PG Music sales staff about getting the styles that you are missing. If any of us users sent the above PG Music styles to you, we'd be violating copyright laws and licensing agreements.

Also, keep in mind that having a particular style may or may not solve your problem if you don't have the associated instrumental files that link to the style.

What I suggest is that you either email or use Live Chat (found under the Support tab at the top of the page) to talk to sales staff. They will help. Reference the URL of this thread so that Sales can read what you are looking for and the suggestions that Lloyd has made.

All the best,
Noel

Let us know if you're considering upgrading to a package that will include more styles. If not, you could send me a PM (personal message - click on my name in blue and select "send a PM") with a LIST of the styles you have - not the styles themselves.

There's likely enough that you have already, to get you started for practicing.

Merry Christmas!
