I posted elsewhere a qthread about BiaB/Kontakt compatibility in terms of memory But sometimes, just loading a midifile gets me the "Out Of Memory" nag message... Hence my need for further info : what precisely grabs memory in BiaB : number of tracks, midi channels, midi events, VSTi type, Fx, RT instruments... My wish: It would be very convenient/useful to have a resources monitor (like, say, in Cubase) in order to sort out these elements and prevent frustrating and time-consuming crashes... Mo. config: Win7 SP1 64bits, CPU i7 x4 3.70GHz, 16 GB RAM, 2 SSDs, M-Audio FastTrack Ultra

1- it doesn't "sound" at all since "OOM"message blocks whatever you could do with the file 2- My point concerns adding a resource/performance monitor precisely to monitor which elements are the most resource-hungry

Could you paste the exact message, from the message log shown in menu-help-utilities-show log.
And also email the song to support@pgmusic.com referencing this thread, and telling them to forward it to me.
The program wouldn't be running out of memory. It is possible the message is from the VST, or something in the song is confusing the program. And there is a 2,000 bar limit, which is about one hour of a song, but that message tells you that.
As for resource monitors, there is one called task manager in Windows that tells you how much memo is used and CPU usage.
Have Fun! Peter Gannon PG Music Inc.

I remember when I received an update to a sound library, running the program literally ate through all my memory and just didn't work. Turns out it was trying to poll the sound card and the problem turned out to be an out-of-date soundcard driver was causing the problem. I updated the driver and everything worked just fine.
So, it may very well lie somewhere with a VSTi or even your sound card driver.
Just a thought.

OK, Peter I'll do that ASAP thanx for your attention
PS : my concern isn't to check the resources (CPU/RAM) eaten by BiaB as a whole, but mostly to sort out while working with audio/midi elements/data which ones are memory-hungry. In order to prevent crashes and to make informed trade-offs between realism and what I can afford to add to my arrangement (say: RT instruments, Fx plugins, loops, etc.). Let's call it an internal task manager for BiaB. (just a modest suggestion)

Here are a few tools that may help. Mind you, I do understand your wish, but in the mean time; Performance Monitor https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749249(v=ws.11).aspx Process Explorer https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processexplorer.aspx Process Monitor https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor.aspx .. one of these may help solve the issue. They've helped me with servers many times. Finding what is causing an issue can be a pain and these tools help make it easier, if you have even just a little bit of 'geek' in you.
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

If there is a program with a memory leak, and I'm not saying there is, then rebooting clears it. A memory leak in programs, if you exit and reload repeatedly, will suck up all available resources. This may not be RAM; it could also be buffers maintained by Windows.

I only know that during the RT rendering phase, everything on my computer (and I mean every thing!) comes to an absolute halt. Even switching to desktop, let alone another app, takes until the rendering is at least 75% into it. And that's on Mac OS X where such a phenomenon just should not happen at all

Rendering to audio is very CPU-intensive.

Sorry to have been absent from this thread I launched at first, but I experienced a crash of a USB removable drive that hosted all my PG softs. With help of an expensive data recovery service, I could rebuild more or less a working DAW, but it's very frustrating + time-consuming. bottom line : backup your stuff !! Mo.

Coming back to this with more (obvious?) info: Having many "Artists" files, .i.e. individual audio tracks on their own channels, is very consuming to the program. I experienced a 'peek' of three such before things starting to go very weird, could for instance not create a Soloist if that soloist used a RT instrument (it gave me a midi equivalent) once I was up to three Artist tracks.

And of course VST plugins can now add to the load considerably. It would be nice of the program had at least some sort of a "Warn if overload" added to the Plugins settings (akin to Cubase et al.).
