Great Country music.

A big thank you to Bud Merritt for bringing this to my attention. And to Rolling Stone for bringing it to his.
Unfortunately it was in one of those "great albums that you missed" articles.

I don't have a problem with music changing and evolving as Country has over the last couple of years.
I do regret that we have lost what it used to be. Mainly because THIS is what I want it to be.
It breaks my heart that this is gone. And nobody cares.

I buy records that I believe in. Like this. But not many do (we are old).
And who is going to stream this? And...how many times???? Mark will likely make a buck fifty.

But... Here is one of THE best records I've heard in a long time.
Great songs. Great production. Great vocals. Great.

Here is the whole thing (note that each sing has been play a couple of thousand times)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSE31VmJf9Q&list=PLCqzqKsDfN8U5RCk_oHTl-50fNl7kGKPn

and each song:

And they say there ain't anyone to replace the old legends like Haggard and Jones.

Nonsense.... they just don't get as much airplay as the bro country wannabe's.

Country music still lives.

It's all I've been listening to. This is how it's done! Still trying to figure out who played tele and steel. He used to use Brent and Franklin, but it doesn't sound like them to my ears. Great record!!!

Allmusic.com lists Brent Mason and Jimmy Ritchey as the electric guitar players while Mike Johnson is listed as the steel and dobro player. The full line-up is available ++ HERE ++

Day three and we're still listening. It's inspired me to start on a tune about the transition of 90's country music to today's party anthem crapola. Anything that can get my sorry a$$ writing has some real mojo smile

Too bad it says that "This video is not available" on all of them. Maybe it is available only in the US?

You can buy it for $5 (mp3 download)

https://www.amazon.com/Tradition-Lives-Mark-Chesnutt/dp/B01FJEAJ7U

$5 well spent.

The physical CD comes in a very basic paper cover - no jewel box. The way all CDs should be sold.

But I did need a magnifying glass to read the credits. smile

In case you aren't aware of how bad current country is. Partial lyric from a big Luke Bryan 2013.

"I got that real good feel good stuff,
Up under the seat of my big black jacked up truck,
Rollin’ on 35s,
Pretty girl by my side.
You got that sun tan, skirt and boots,
Waiting on you to look my way and scoot
Your little hot self over here,
Girl, hand me another beer, yeah!"

I've listened to these songs several times over the last few days. Verdict...

Great songs, performed extremely well! Purchase made!

Thanks for the "heads up" on this one FJ.

It really is surprising even given the current state of affairs that this project didn't even blip the country radar screen. I saw zero mention until I read the Rolling Stone article and this was six months after its release. I read several Americana newsletters/blogs and they often cover real country - dunno how they missed this one.

Well, not quite that far. Not even to Patagonia, yet. But southern Brazil. "The FAR South" is supposed to be sarcasm for terms like; The Far East from a time when we were much less global. whistle

Those are some great songs and great sounds!

One album that did get lots of airplay this year that seemed more straight up country was Miranda Lambert's The Weight of These Wings.

I kind of quit listening to most radio country. I found Lambert's album on several best-of lists for 2016 as a more traditional country album and for the most part I would say the lists were right. I certainly didn't expect it from the pop-country scene.

My favorite that just doesn't seem to get the airplay I think he deserves is Junior Brown. Perhaps he's too much old-school rock n roll combined with country?
