There is probably an option called Save As that will allow you to save the files/project on the DAW computer's harddrive. Sounds like you are currently saving it to the SDHC.

You need to copy and paste the files from the portable medium into a folder on the DAW machine.

Sounds like you are telling the DAW where the tracks are located and it's working with them on the portable drive and never importing them to the computer.

You can work with them like that to save space on the DAW machine, but when you finish, you should then do a SAVE AS and save it to the DAW machine's folder. That way, it only writes the files it needs.

After checking things over I found that the individual files each only have kilobytes listed after each one all under 100 so I assume I should have saved differently. I have always done all in the one computer so I think maybe because I don't have the Biab files there also it won't save properly. I use Mixcraft 7 for my daw. Maybe I need to put the original Biab file on the new computer so there is a reference. let me know if I am on the right track here.
Thanks

are they midi or audio?

Midi files are pretty small. A few hundred KB is about right for a midi track.

Audio files tend to be much larger with 20MB to 30MB being average depending on the length of the track.

Are you exporting the tracks from BB or RB?

> I use Mixcraft 7 <

Does this help?

I render my wav files from BIAB to a named folder(song name).
In M7 you add those sound files to your tracks. Remember at this time M7 is only 'pointed' to those files in that folder.
Remove access to that folder or delete those files,M7 will not 'see' those wav files anymore.

To keep those wav files in M7 you have to use Copy project files to.

I do all my work in RB when done I render to individual wave file. In the old computer I would save them in my music folder, go into Mixcraft find the files and add the files one by one with the add sound button, never had a problem. For the new computer I copy each individual track to the sd card and enter to new computer as above. I save the project in the c: drive in music library with the song title. Next time I go back to it the song title is there but I get errors that the file is not there. All the files are audio wave files. Hope that helps on your end.

Thanks

I tried the same thing in Reaper and can't get the song to save to the computer C: when I remove the sd card it says file is missing. Don't understand what is happening.

Create a new desktop folder. Copy and paste the files or drag them from the SD card to the folder. They should appear in that folder.

Remove the SD card. the files should still be in the folder. Name the folder and drag it to where it needs to be, generally in another folder where you keep your projects organized.

Proceed with the project.

I had the same issues with Windows 8. MS in their foolish thinking, redesigned the desktop and how it worked. I couldn't get anything done. I didn't know how to find a program to open it.

So I searched the net.... and discovered that there were free programs that would give you the old look and functionality of the older windows OS desktop.

problem solved. I'll bet they have the same thing for W10

It is still there in windows 10, they just moved it. Click on the windows icon, bottom left of your screen, you will find it under "Windows System". Just drag it onto your desktop.

If you prefer the look of Windows 7 in Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10, you can install either Classic Shell for free or StarDock Start8 or Start10 (depending upon which version you have) for $5.

I use Start10, as I also use Stardock's Fences program as well.
