I cleaned off my windows 7 laptop because the windows update no longer works!! I ended up using a 2014 image (because I wasn't paying attention!). Do I have to reload biab 2016 on it to install my 2017 upgrade. I am assuming the answer is yes, but I thought I would ask.

but answer is NO if you mean to buy 2017 AS LONG AS YOUR PG ACCOUNT has a record of owning 2016.
If question is "reinstalling 2017 upgrade because you already bought it" again answer is NO - just reinstall 2017 over 2014. However, you may want to re-install 2016 over 2014 first to pick up anything you bought in 2016 that was unique (like a add-on pak) that only takes a few minutes anyway - it's NOT brain surgery like installing MS Office or Visual Studio or Sonar.

It depends upon which versions you have and which version you of 2017 you purchased.
If you purchased the UltraPlusPak or the EverythingPak (or the Audiophile edition), then you can just install that on top of your 2014 image. However, if you purchased any additional paks with 2015 or 2016, then that content may (or may not) be present and you should install those packs also. Don't forget to update to the latest patch after you do so.
If you have generally purchased the PlusPaks, they only include what's new from the previous version. So a 2017 PlusPak must be installed on top of your 2016 version and the 2016 PlusPak must be installed on your 2015 version, and likewise for 2015 on the 2014 version.

That sounds good to me. The desktop has all that extra stuff not included in my pluspak upgrade, but I don't think I will need all that on my laptop (famous last words!).
