Forgive me, I have no Music Theory - I'm self-taught and just play. Can you help, please?

1. Lets say I'm inputting chords into the standard window, and on the first row I see 4 Bars. I count those bars as "one two three four" per bar, so I count four times across the row.
2. Based on how BB divides the bars, for any given bar, I can enter a chord on "one" or "three", but cannot on "two or four".
3. I need to do that, and can't figure out how.

I've tried just doubling the tempo, and "spreading the chords out" across the window, but then the Real Tracks don't play correctly.

Something this simple, and this common in music, MUST have been addressed by those wizards at PG... but because I don't know the correct terminology, I don't know what to look for in the Manuals or this Forum.

Can anyone please boot me in the Butt, as long as that kick is toward the info I seek?

My thanks! smile

To put 4 chords in a measure - Each measure has two cells

place a comma after the odd numbered chord

1,2 <enter> 3,4

Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) counts either four chords to the bar (4/4 time) or three chords to the bar (3/4 or waltz time). Style selection determines which count BiaB will use. BiaB derives all other time signatures from 3/4 or 4/4 time signatures.

During playback and chord entry the cursor position is displayed as a rectangle. Each rectangle cursor position displays two chord positions so there are two cursor positions within each bar. The left cursor position in a bar is used for beat 1 and beat 2 while the right cursor position in a bar is used for beat 3 and beat 4.

Chords are entered by entering both odd and even beats into a cursor position. The odd beat and even beat chord information are separated with a comma.

So, if I wanted to have the four chords "E" "A" "A" "B" played in one bar I would enter the information as: e,a (press tab or enter to advance) a,b

Yes, it's easy once you know the method. Don't forget this technique you tried though; it may help you in some other situation.

And to add to it: if you want a chord on say beat one and beat 4 only, you would enter your first chord in the first cell of the bar, and then in the second cell just enter comma-chord (nothing in front of the comma. That initial comma tells BIAB to enter no chord on beat 3 and to put the chord after it on beat 4.

So if you had:

|C / / Em|

you would just enter:

C <enter> ,Em

The "C" goes on beat 1, the Em goes on beat 4.
