Several forum users perform live either online or in front of people. Gig Performer is a software application that lets performers use VST effects during a performance. The link below is for a written review of the program:

Hi Jim and others,

I just wondered if anyone is using Gig Performer and if they are using it in conjunction with Band in a Box.

Thanks.

Gig Performer v4 has just been announced. It's a really big update to v3...and I started on v2 after switching from Cantabile (Forte didn't work for me, and the dev has now ceased development).

I use GP (as it's referred to in their forum) in the studio. I use BiaB to develop backing tracks that GP plays via its audio file player and connect my bass directly to the instrument input on my audio interface, routing it through Amplitube 5 in GP. No need for a modelling bass amp (like the Fender Rumble Studio 40). I do the modelling in GP via AT5.

Interesting how it's handling memory. Couldn't find out if Cantabile is doing something similar. Cantabile seems to offer better pricing with its various packages.

Very interesting article, thanks for posting.

Technology is amazing.

Where was this stuff when I was performing as a solo act? Oh wait.... Yeah .... that was decades ago.

This was what I loved about my Voicelive 3 extreme. It did all this for me - or at least all that I needed as a solo act. Shame it was executed when behringer took it over. I believe it's back on sale now, but with minimal support and no development in years.

I'm still using my Voicelive 3 Extreme every day. I have one of the last TC Helicon units made by them from around 2019, although as you said, there does seem to be a limited new supply occasionally listed at Sweetwater. For me, the secret in using these things, which are very deep in there use, is the Voicelive Editors software. With the software, all of the hundreds of control parameters are available in a computer-based GUI. I primarily use the VL3 to drive harmonies via midi that I feed it from RealBand.

I'm only performing live 3 to 4 times a month now but the VL3 Extreme is a critical part of my performance and since it's hard to find these days, I treat it like it was made of gold.

I've been playing gigs around town for a couple years now with a young woman I met at a jam. I play acoustic guitar and sing, and she plays fiddle and sings. We call ourselves Fiddle & Flattop. We play some of my originals and cover some new and classic country stuff, fiddle tunes, etc.

I've played a few online shows too, solo, but not lately.

Anyway, at one point I bought a VoiceLive - too much hassle. I feel the same way about backing tracks and a computer and even a phone or tablet for lyrics on stage. I know others have success using these tools, and I've tried to get onboard, but they tend to make me feel trapped instead of free to perform or improvise.

I have a mixer, a monitor, and the main speakers. I set 'em and forget 'em and play.
