Hey guys, anybody using this DAW? Any thoughts about it?
Thanks for your input

I have it and use it sometimes - especially if I am in a hurry for "getting to it."

http://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/acoustica-mixcraft-pro-studio-7

It's got a free demo (I think?) so give it a try.

It is quick to use and learn RELATIVE to most OTHER DAW's

It is not "best," biggest, fastest, most feature rich - but its not worst, slowest, or feature lacking either.

=======
FYI: I was "raised on" Cakewalk (since DOS) but as of ~8 months ago I'm weening OFF of Sonar and I'm a lifetime Sonar Platinum customer! (long story there). I'm now slowly giving FL 12 Studio an "ops check" to see if it will be my "main squeeze."

I have Reaper but Reaper to me is just, ... well, awkward. It's like having a stick shift that is upside down and backwards it works but it is not intuitive at all, at least to me, especially if you are primarily a MIDI user, as opposed to mainly a AUDIO recording user: I need a good, fast, MIDI sequencer more than I need the "D" and the "A" in "DAW."

I also have about half a dozen other DAWs but I actually have not really liked ANY DAW - since about CW Pro Audio 9 days!

Hi Mike,

I use Mixcraft 7 DAW. I have tried other DAW software but for my limited knowledge of music making I found this to be the easiest to start making music..........and progress quickly!

I am also new to BIAB but find i can cut chop paste copy easy within Mixcraft to get tracks working together. As an example of what is possible you can hear the tracks Ive made using MC with BIAB/RB.

I think you can trial many DAWS before you invest money so go ahead and try them as I did before I bought the one that suited me and my purpose.

Hope this helps you with any descsion
Paul

Thanks Larry and Paul for your replies. I downloade the demo for MC8 and I was impressed by the features for the price. I've been using Acid 7 since it came out years ago and it's been pretty good. I just wanted to try something different. I probably get it. Thanks again.

Mike B.

PS. Good job Paul. Liked the instrumental a lot. Good vocals on the other ones.

Mike,

If you're still evaluating DAWs, you might want to look at +++ MultiTrack Studio or MTS +++ .

There are a few things that make MTS unique and stand apart from other DAWs. The biggest is the use of built-in, modeled midi instrument patches. The patches are not general midi compatible because the general midi sound effect patches are not included. Instead an expanded instrument set is provided. The second is lifetime updates. Once you purchase the software you are finished spending money on a DAW.

If it is NCH, I'm there. Their products are great. I was into Crescendo and Debut just this week. I also have Prism, a converter,
I use them on a WIN machine that doesn't go online. I mention that because many software developers and sellers get hooked on upgrades as a way of keeping going. That is fine with me; but, when the current versions suddenly and somehow become unusable, there is a certain line that has been crossed.
I, too, settled on SONY, the studio. Only lately, since having been talking with the awesome people on this forum, have I been dabbling in cut-paste-volume-pan-
all those DAW features.
I saw this movie that showed how bands of city dogs in India, over time, tend to breed a kind of universal dog -- medium size, brown, short hair, wary of people.
I have thought that music, if mixed to its conclusion, would produce a similar result.

I can second MTS, I started using it on Mac's recommendation a long time ago, and never looked back. It's intuitive, I very rarely resort to reading the manual. There is a free trial system to whet your appetite. Also loads of high quality native plugins. The support is very good, and if you get stuck there is a forum to help you.
No, I don't work for them, but I would recommend it to anyone.

I'm about to pull the trigger on MTS. Even from the screenshots it looks very intuitive and the users manual is extremely clear and well-organized.

What would you say are some negatives about it?

The routing is not as flexible as Reaper. Having said that, the only problem I had with that, was when I wanted to record the midi output of MidiGuitar direct from an audio to a midi track. Support gave me a workround so that was ok. It looks a bit old fashioned, and some of the more obscure functions are not immediately apparent, but it is rock solid, never a crash, and support is very helpful. To get an idea of the recordings done with MTS check out the forum, for example http://www.multitrackstudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2349
They have free lifelong updates now as well.
But you wanted to hear the negatives smile

While I don't use MTS as my regular DAW (I generally use RealBand and/or Sonar), I do use often to check out a new VSTi or effect because it loads quickly, it works, and I get my answer in a hurry.
