I'm using the Celtic Waltz Solo Acoustic Guitar which is finger-picked. When I place a hold on a chord ... it strums. Not acceptable, just really "interrupts" the flow. Is there a work around for this? Does the 2017 version of BIAB address this?

Well, if it doesn't hold when you place a Hold, that ain't right. There have been a lot of "fixes" to holds over the past months. Do you have all the RT updates? If you do, then best if you could upload you BIAB file and let one of us try to play it on the current 2017 to see what we hear.
If it's playing a strum rather than single notes you can change the Hold number the track uses by going into the soloist editor http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=367012 Have a look in the realtrack picker in the Holds column and find a similar guitar that uses a different hold number, now change the realtrack to use that hold and see how it sounds. Remember the original hold number just in case they bring out a fix.
EDIT: another thing, that Peter mentioned:
Quote:
One other point, if you've customized the holds by editing them using the soloist editor, you should first, before installing the update, backup default.sol and rtextra.bin in the bb folder. Because these updates will overwrite those files.
Thanks all ... My problem was that it gives a downward strum instead of a pluck which would be more appropriate. I will try looking at the holds as suggested . V
Back to this same issue... I have tried all the fingerpicking holds and they are ALL a strum. Any other suggestions? This downward strum sounds wrong with the fingerpicked waltz.
We will add a feature request for this, but there is a workaround in the meantime. In the notation window, select the guitar track, press PT button and select Enable Playable Track. Put a single note at the start of the bar and then Mute the Guitar track at that bar.
The O/P will need a version of BiaB that supports Playable RealTracks.

What RT is it ? as I can make up a new Hold file with single notes but if other strumming instruments use that same Hold number it will play single notes for them. If it has a unique Hold number for the RT it will be ok or else a whole new Hold number will have to be made and set the RT to use it
The O/P will need a version of BiaB that supports Playable RealTracks.
or in other words, BIAB 2017 will not.
Correct. The suggested workaround will require an upgrade.

The post was from Apr 08 2017 so they could have 2024 by now ?
Yes, but unfortunately, even in the post of earlier today, the O/P has given absolutely no clue as to what version is now being used. Hence, I can only guess. Just guess, just speculate. Nothing more.

The suggested workaround can be done in older versions prior to Playable RealTracks. There was a BIAB tutorial back in 2011 that used the default midi synth and a later if I recall, Musocity demonstrated the concept using Sforzando rather than the default and provided better midi sounds.
The concept prior to Playable RealTracks utilizes two tracks, edit the midi data and mute/return to normal between the two tracks to achieve the desired notes.
In the screenshots, I edited the midi to a single held note but a user could also use the appregio notes or edit the bar to any note or combination they want.
Thanks Charlie. You have suggested another method. I was only noting that the suggested workaround of using Playable RealTracks would require an upgrade from the 2017 release.

If I can find out what RT number it is I can make some single note Holds/Shots for it, you just have the hold followed by 4 shots. You could also have a very slow strum option for a fingerpicking Hold just like I put in the Guitar, Acoustic, Nylon Multi Ev8 120 UserTrack :
I think it was RT1815 and I tested it using the PRT method to add a single note hold, and it works pretty much perfectly for that RT. So that is a good solution in the absence of any single-note holds, at least for this RT.
Thanks Charlie. You have suggested another method. I was only noting that the suggested workaround of using Playable RealTracks would require an upgrade from the 2017 release.
You're correct. As Matt Finley noted, Playable RealTracks were not an option in 2017 when the OP had the original issue. Now it's March 2024 and the issue is still not resolved and the OP is asking for other suggestions. After her 2024 post, two options were provided here on the forum, Playable RealTracks and a custom hold proposed by Musocity. At the time I made my suggestion, the OP had not responded to either of the prior suggestions. I was providing a third option for the OP if she returned and neither of the earlier two suggestions were suitable.
One thing there's no speculation about is the OP has a version of BIAB with RealTracks. The method I detailed will work with BIAB versions that have RealTracks so the version she has is irrelevant. If she has upgraded, Playable RealTracks have been confirmed they will work. Musocity offered a method that should also work for her. If not, the method I presented will at least provide the opportunity to resolve the issue.
