I'm trying to use Band in A Box to learn how to sightread music better. As it is whenever I generate a melody it is rather hard to play along with it because it contains too many 16th and eighth note variations. Is there a way to reduce the melody generation tendencies? I'd like to start off playing whole, half, and quarter notes.

U can try the New Age soundtrack melodist, and slow Koto Soundtracks.. Lots of slow notes there....

I would concentrate on your ear and hearing abilities.
What do you think becoming a good sight reader's going to do for you if you don't mind my asking??
Music is all about hearing it and then putting it on your instrument.
Now if you're a horn player I cannot understand about wanting to become a better site reader but if you're a guitar player......
Just work off of recordings and tab.

Interesting reply BBB I'm a good sight reader, but that comes from many years with a classical music background, and having worked not just in my own bands but as a fill in musician for other bands on many occasions. I wouldn't want to lose that skill. If you wanted to work in a band or as a session musician I would think the ability to be a good sight reader would be a very worthwhile advantage. I also don't understand that when it comes to sight reading why a horn player benefits differently to a guitar player?

Just work off of recordings and tab.
I made a lot of money being a site reading guitarists! If you are going to use tabs DO NOT use them as a crutch. Learn to read music all up and down the fret board and only use tabs if you need a starting note or to see what position(s) you could/should be playing. Yes I am old school.
