Hi,

I'd like to free-up ~10GB of space on my solid state drive. BTW, what is the purpose of these files?

And while I'm on the subject, can I move any other (large/numerous) files to a different drive as well?

Cheers...

Anthony,

Those files are very important to the operation of BIAB. They drive many of the styles, Realtracks and MIDI Supertracks.

Noel

You'll have to keep those inside the bb folder root, in your case probably C:/bb.

BUT: you can move the Realtrack and Drums folder elsewhere. In BIAB preferences you'll have to re-address them to be found elsewhere.

OR: you could install the complete BIAB on another drive or even partition instead. Bought me a separate 2 TB internal drive for BIAB. You could also run BIAB off a separate USB plugin drive like from the WD 3 TB USB 3.0 drive it was delivered on when you have the Audiophile version. F

Anthony, there are really only a few change options:

  • The RealTracks folder can be moved to a different location (the default is the RealTracks folder within the main BIAB folder), and then you specify that location in the RealTracks settings.
  • The RealDrums folder can be moved to a different location (the default is the Drums folder within the main BIAB folder), and then you specify that location in the RealTracks settings.
  • Style files (*.sty) can either be moved to a Styles folder under the main BIAB folder (or you can split your styles between the main folder and the Styles folder. ST2 and XT2 are not styles files and must stay in the main BIAB folder
  • The songs you create can be saved and loaded from any location on your computer.

That's the extent of file location changes you can make. Anything else will break BIAB.

On my machine, I have the main BIAB application installed to:

D:\Apps\PGMusic\BIAB (in fact all my PGMusic apps, because they don't write to the registry, are installed under D:\Apps\PGMusic)

My RealTracks and RealDrums are installed to:

E:\Audio\PGMusic\RealInst\RealTracks, and
E:\Audio\PGMusic\RealInst\Drums

All my PGMusic provided styles and Norton Music provided styles are located in:

D:\Apps\PGMusic\BIAB (the main BIAB folder)

and all my user created and web-downloaded styles are located in:

D:\Apps\PGMusic\BIAB\Styles

That all works great for me and keeps the content off my C: drive. Fonts, DXi plugins, and whatever else PGMusic installs to support BIAB do get installed on C:, however, but that's not much space compared to the main program and the Real Instruments.

Thank you for all the replies. What a great forum!

It seems the easiest/safest choice is to reinstall BIAB on another drive. So that's what I'll do.

Cheers...

Since you've already installed BIAB on your main drive, all the add-on stuff (fonts, DXi's, etc) are already there, so the easiest thing to do is to just copy your entire BIAB folder off your main drive to the other drive, then re-locate the RealTracks and/or RealDrums, if you wish, to wherever you want them.

I would then re-run the latest patch again (it won't hurt) and specify the new locations (and BIAB will pick that up for future updates, so everything goes to the right place). I would then rename the original folder (just to make sure you aren't loading accidentally from the previous location). Then open BIAB and tell it where your RealTracks and RealDrums are. Rebuild your stylepicker and load a style and save a song (which will keep you from getting style can't be found errors), update your shortcut to BIAB (and the shortcut in the start menu) and then you should be good to go.

Once you've verified everything works, you can delete the original BIAB folder.

That will take a lot less time than a full re-install.

HI John

Very interesting and handy tip.
As this will leave Realband orphaned on the C drive is this ok or does Realband have any dependency on knowing where BIAB is installed.

It is quite small just under 1Gb so no prob do you advocate moving this also .

In other words if you buy BIAB on a hard drive pre installed and run the min installer
Where is real band installed for this set up? I guess is what I need to know.
Slightly puzzled
Mike

Do the same with Realband, and don't forget to readdress the RealTrack and Drums folders in Realbands Preferences to the moved ones in the bb folder, if needed ... F

You can move Realband similarly, or just leave it where it is, but go in and update the new RT/RD locations.

If you need more space on your C:\ drive you can move the 14GB Soloists folder bb\Soloists to another drive then use a Symbolic Link to create a symlink folder "Soloists" in C:\bb\ that links to X:\bb\Soloists
