Would anyone who does the RealBand real rack thing be interrested in converting a .mid flie to show me how it would sound in RealBand real tracks. I'll send you a soung I've done in .mid flie wth PTPA 12 using VSC vst's. Convert it, send it back in .wma or .mp3 to listen to finish product. I want to know what my tracks will sound like from a professional. I can't seem to get my RealBand to work
properly. Thanks.

A RealBand real rack thing likely won't convert a .mid flie to some pro sounding stuff, cause RealBand is 'look Ma, no MIDI!'. Midi arrangements just won't turn into RealTrack type sounds. Just get your RealBand up and running properly and see what kind of arrangements you may achieve, maybe with midi melody and RealTrack comping and solos. If in trouble, you are welcome to ask specific questions.

You can't convert a MIDI track to an RT but you can REPLACE it.

First select an empty track and <right click> on it
Next, scroll down the menu provided and select 'Select & Generate RealTrack' or 'Select & Generate RealDrums' (depending on whether you want an RT or an RD), select your instrument of choice, preferably one that approximately matches the style and tempo, and generate
Finally, mute the MIDI track you want to replace this new track with

Please note - IT WILL NOT PLAY YOUR MIDI NOTES BUT ITS OWN INTERPRETATION OF THE CHORDS etc

Or are you telling us that you want to hear what your track would sound like in RTs because you don't have them?

If you want the same notes try Native Instruments Bandstand and set you midi out to use it. I think there is a folder in BIAB called

Before: Oh_Darling_V1_Beatles.kar.mid
After: Oh_Darlin_mid ... Sample.mp3

To implement better functionality in Band-in-a-Box with the Native Instruments Bandstand soft synthesizer plugin--

1: Exit Band-in-a-Box if it is running.

2: Please make sure that you have installed the Band-in-a-Box 2006 build 220 update (or later).

3: Move the included BB/Bandstand Technical Notes/AsstSettings.ini file to your Band-in-a-Box bb folder.

4: Please read the UsingBandstandWithBIAB.pdf file to understand what, if anything,
you may want to adjust in the new AsstSettings.ini file.

If your intention is to record original Midi Tracks to Audio, then in order to get any Midi track to sound authentic, it is necessary to edit the Midi track by adding a mixture of Midi Controllers such as CC11 (Expression), CC1 (Modulation) and Pitch Bends. These can be added Manually via the Event List or the Piano Roll Window. However, in my experience, it is difficult to emulate the articulations achieved by real life musicians manually unless one has a good knowledge of the instrument concerned. I use a simple program by Ntonyx called the Stylizer which can be used to emulate the way instruments could be played. If you are interested, I will be happy to demonstrate the way this program works. Please PM me.

Not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but........What I do on many occasion, is

1. Find a midi file that I like
2. Convert the midi track or tracks to audio
3. Use audio effects such as compressor, reverb, delay etc to shape the sound
4. I often will then have Real Band generate an instrument on one or more tracks

This can be for solos, comping, or fills, such as sax or resonator guitar.

5. Mute the midi tracks, and play all the audio thru my sound source or sources.
6. Do the first mix, adjust any effects such as too much reverb etc.
7. Do the final mixdown, and pre master stage
8. Master finishes

A converted midi to audio file if tweaked properly can sound very much like a real instrument, be advised it will not be a real instrument, but will be closer than using just a midi sound. This especially applies to certain instruments like guitars.

Strings and sometimes pianos can do quite well with midi. I convert those anyway, just so I can eq them and compress them the way I want.
