Hi guys I have never used real band to a great extent, always BIAB Then export the tracks to sonar, and what I would like to do is this:
I would like to start with a click track and play a song on the acoustic guitar with vocals onto a track then add the real tracks and the fills and the solos on top of that track that I have recorded. That sound-like something that's easily done?

Anybody using that method with any tips? Thanks everybody

I might be mistaken but wouldn't you want to lay out the chords to the song before you generate the real tracks? Seems like you need the tempo and chord changes before the real track would generate, otherwise how would the real tracks determine what notes to play within the song?

I would like to record an audio track over top of a drum beat or a click track. That way if there are variations in the way I play the song, little ad libs maybe shorten or lengthen a verse etcetra I could then go back-and add the real tracks. If the audio track is recorded against a click tack the tempo and timing would-be right. Correct?

Yes, I think the tempo and timing would be correct that way. I'll let someone else respond that records the way you are talking about. Don't want to give you bad info.

I'm new to RealBand too, but check out this posted by Noel in response to my thread below. I think it might help. I'm finding some cool features in RealBand that dovetail nicely into BIAB also mentioned in the thread below.

Something that I have yet to investigate fully, and that looks incredibly powerful on the video, is the Click Track function.

If you go to the Youtube link below, the click track explanation begins at 37:44

Just record your song to a click track by going down and click > Metronome > write to track, then set the tempo, if there are tempo changes just enter them in the Tempo Map.
Fill in the chords and part markers after recording, then generate up the RealTracks/Drums where you need them. You can highlight any section and use the MultiRiff function.

Playing smoothly to a click track is a learned skill and some find it a bit disconcerting to play and follow a click when they first begin to play to a click.

Many think it's easier to play to a drum pattern. Copy and paste a track a bit longer than the length of your song.

You can use the click track function to tighten up the timing of your song.

To generate backing tracks that play along with your recorded audio, you do have to enter the key signature of your audio as well as a chord chart for the song. RB will play the tempo map you have already completed as detailed above.

You do not have to play to a click track or drum pattern to record backing tracks to your recorded audio. You must have reasonable natural timing to do so. Some folks think they lose their groove to the punctual timing of a click track. If that's you, record your audio track free style and use the click track feature to align the timing before adding your backing tracks or the ACW to automatically calculate key, tempo and chords for you.

You could also just run your recorded part through the Audio Chord Window (ACW) to find the tempo and chords and have them entered in the Tempo map and Chord Window automagically.

Then generate away.

I made a video of this process, it's around here somewhere. One of the older ones.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

ACW could find the temple as well?
That's pretty cool.

Yes I understand about playing to a click track and I would probably play to a drum beat and stead. I use a drum machine in my life show all the time.

Anyway the acoustic guitar and vocal track Would-be a rough track to begin with. After I save everything to audio tracks and load them and sonar I would certainly replace that track here.

That multi riff thing sounds appealing! Sometimes is a lot of hit-and-miss putting together a solo.

Thanks guys.

<< ACW could find the temple as well? >>

The ACW actually creates a tempo map for the song. It determines the key signature and decodes the chords and imports all of this information into your BIAB or RB song.

I recommend you practice with the ACW before just jumping into a project. It is a bit of a learned skill. A good way to practice is to download songs from the User Showcase Forum. Find songs that provide the key, tempo information and that will help you since you will have accurate information to compare about the song and the ACW decoding. I've also found the ACW seems to decode BIAB songs quite accurately as opposed to some commercial tracks that may have dozens of tracks that interfere with the decoding process.

Multi fiff really helps with solo's.

Here is a song I did in 2015 that I created the guitar solos and fills using the multi riff feature. Since Multi Riff provides seven choices per use, this song had a minimum of 126 passages to select from for the final solo comp. I also used mult rif for the sax soloist in addition to the guitars.
