Hi,

We use a combination of BIAB generated backing tracks, MIDI sequences, live guitar and some "karaoke" backing tracks.

RealBand opens and plays the karaoke .mp3 tracks and opens the associated .cdg file and shows the Karaoke window and the sync'd lyrics. Life is good. It's handy to have the sync'd lyrics when learning a new song.

I'm trying to find a way, if possible, to save the track as a .SEQ file and then when opening it again still have access to the lyrics. This is primarily for use while learning a new song, and I'm doing things like changing the gain on the track, so it is nicer to have it loaded into the RB.

The problem is that RB doesn't attempt to open the associated .cdg file when loading the .SEQ file, so that doesn't work. So far I haven't found any option to open the .cdg file separately after loading the .SEQ file.

Has anyone tried this, and if so were you able to find a solution? It's mainly an annoyance, and there are several ways I can work around it, but I would prefer to do it with RB.

The only reason I run Windoze is for BIAB and RB. Otherwise I run Linux, and I really don't want to install a bunch of other software on Windoze just for something I do occasionally.

Thanks,

You can use File-Import and import a .KAR file into a SEQ file, if that helps.
I'm not sure by your description of how you are opening what you have, or what file format you are actually opening initially.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks, but .KAR is different than .cdg
.KAR files are basically MIDI files with Lyrics in an Event.

.cdg files contain video lyrics

Here's how I open the .mp3 file that has an associated .cdg file in RB.

Start RB.

Select Open file (either menu or toolbar button)
Change to directory that contains the .mp3 and .cdg files.
Select the .mp3 file
Open it.
RB loads the .mp3 file to track 1 and opens the Karaoke Lyric window.

Note: The Karaoke Lyric window is different from the Big Lyric window that opens with SEQ files or KAR files that have lyrics.

Creating Karaoke Video or CDG versions of youre Biab Songs

You can save the cdg to wmv video with KaraFun v1 then load that into RB by clicking the Video button in Views.

I think Biab/RB all worked under Wine in Linux, it just needed WMP and a few other tweaks.

Thanks, I'll check out KaraFun and see about converting the cdg files.

I use an external USB MIDI synth module and a couple of years ago when I tried RB via Wine under Linux I had some issues with getting the USB module to work. But I haven't revisited it, so it may be worth doing that as well. Not that it would resolve the cdg file issue of course:)

But if I can get BIAB and RB working good enough under Linux I would ditch Windoze in a heartbeat. Win 10 was so bad on my wife's HP desktop that I moved her over to Linux Mint and she loves it. Very fast, updates with Linux are also very fast, rarely do you have to reboot with a Linux update. Linux updates not only the OS but applications you have installed too. None of the don't turn your computer off, preparing updates, rot and then the same thing on start up from a Windoze update.

Off to check KaraFun and a test of RB running on Linux to see if my USB issues have been resolved.

Thanks again,
