I have in mind there is a checkbox that allows current instruments to remain the same when a new style is selected. If such a box does exist, I can't now find it.
Can somebody please tell me where this checkbox is located or otherwise let me know it was purely a figment of my imagination!
Thanks

If you're just talking about MIDI instruments and not RealTracks, check out the Preferences > Favourite Patch > Combos.
I found it in the Help File by typing in COMBO.
You didn't state which version of BIAB you're using.
Good luck! LLOYD S

Lloyd,
Thanks. Assuming I'm remembering correctly it involves all track types, not just MIDI, so that when a new style is selected it doesn't change whatever instruments have been previously chosen for Bass, Piano, Drums etc.
Windows 10, BIAB version 467.

Allan,
I'm not aware of a setting like the one you describe.
I appreciate that from a MIDI perspective, changing styles also changes the notes attached to a particular track. This means that keeping the same instruments while changing styles, and thus note patterns, could be useful.
From a Realtrack perspective, though, I can't see a great deal of value in changing styles and keeping the instruments the same since it is the RT choices that determine what notes are played (and not note patterns assembled in Stylemaker like with MIDI styles).
I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this because I'm probably not fully understanding the significance of such a setting.
Regards, Noel
P.S. In the meantime, I'll do a search and see if I can find anything in the less travelled areas of BIAB.

Noel,
Thank you. Think I haven't explained clearly what I'm trying to do: experimenting with different styles but using the same instrument tracks. At present, whether frozen or not, they get replaced by whatever instruments the new style uses. In theory 'Make a Hybrid Style' could be an answer, but a few months back it developed a bug, which PG have acknowledged and are working on.

The user manual says: Patch changes are embedded in the Band-in-a-Box styles and these patches are loaded with songs by default. They can be disabled in the MIDI Options dialog found in the Preferences. So go to the MIDI options under preferences and uncheck the box "Style Patch Changes". Set the instruments you want, then try loading a new style and see if the instruments stay the same. This only works for MIDI (not RealTracks or RealDrums), and you may end up with weird results, as you might find a guitar part being played by an electric piano or a horn part being played by an electric guitar, depending on the style definitions and the instruments you have chosen for each track.

Many thanks to those who responded with suggestions - will follow these up. Am forced to conclude my original recollection about what could be done is faulty - one of the perils of old age!
