Those were fun, Callie. The only one I didn't agree with was this one.
It's not even a tiny bit safer (in dry conditions) to leave a car length or more between you and the car in front of you when you are at a DEAD STOP!
This depends on where you live. In the city where I live, you ALWAYS stop far enough behind a stopped car where to have enough room to escape to the left if the passengers jump out of the car with guns drawn and come running to your car. We have at least one of those every month here. It never happened to me, and god help them if they try because I WILL run them over (at the very least) to save my own life.
Where I live, a pizza driver gets robbed about one per week, drivers watch who is leaving an ATM and follow them, then when they stop at a stop sign bump them gently so they get out of the car to look at the damage. At that point they are robbed at gunpoint, often shot dead so there are no witnesses.
So, I am one who stops 2 car lengths behind a stopped car. Of course, if you don't live in the 'hood, that precaution is not necessary. And what is odd is that Bob lives in an area that is not all that great, though I doubt he lives in that "not so great" part of his town.
All in all though, that list was great!!!

Eddie - I totally agree. My other passion is being a Motorcycle Instructor, and we teach the standard "space cushion" policy - after all, everyone needs to have an "escape route" just-in-case!

Wow, Eddie, you have this down to a science to survive where you live. Situational awareness, Matt. I live in a war zone. Just this week we had a home invasion that resulted in 2 people being stabbed. One died. Nobody knows who did it. The survivor didn't know the intruder but the description fits about 25,000 people that live here. Last night, 2 people walking about 12:30am were accosted by 2 young males who held them at gunpoint, took her purse, his wallet and both of their cell phones. And tonight is still young. We'll probably have a pizza delivery guy robbed or worse at some point. I will be here until (hopefully) spring. Then I will live on the road, parking in all you BIAB people's driveways!!!

I'm with the things that bug me section.
But I can see the objections to the stopping, depending on your situation.
I live near a street that has a railroad crossing. Sometimes the trains slow down and stop for 10 or 15 minutes. There are two tracks here, but a half mile south the merge into one track. So the southbound train is waiting for the northbound train to pass before resuming it's journey.
I always leave enough room for a 3 point u-turn when I stop for that one. About 3 miles up the road is an overpass. I'd rather drive than wait, and I'll get there sooner.

Regarding lists of things that bug us...
in the not-too-distant past I would have read that list and concluded that it was wayyyy too short... maybe even going so far as to think "Man, if THAT'S all that bugs you in this life, you must be living the dream"
But as I get older I find that less and less stuff bothers me. Not sure why.

It's called the wisdom of old age Pat. First, is your own health. Getting upset all the time is not good for you. You can feel it as extra stress and you don't need that. Second is you've seen it all before so many times it hardly registers any more. You just go oh, another one. The hippies called it mellowing out and it definitely works.
I live in LA and of course what's the biggest gripe around here? Traffic and road rage. Like Eddie I'm totally aware of what's going on around me on the freeway, all the texting, all the speeding, all the near misses, everything. But, I don't participate any more, don't get upset at it, don't flip someone off, don't let someone get in front of me like I used to etc. But you have drive pretty aggressively or you'd still be waiting to make a lane change for the next exit from two hours ago.
Am I some perfect monk character? Oh, hell no. There are times...I have a little bit of Buford T Justice in me from Smokey And The Bandit. He's about to blow his top, his stress beeper goes off and mid rant he holds out his arms and goes Ommmmmmm. Yeah, I've done that a few times recently but mostly I just shrug stuff off now.
I don't have a problem with stress, I'm not on meds for it or anything but when something happens that sets me off I feel it right in the middle of my chest. Nothing specific like pain, possible heart attack or anything like that, just a general feeling that something's wrong, you know? I force myself to control the breathing, let it go and that feeling goes away pretty quickly.
Mellow out, no negative vibes...
Bob

I'm an old phart..whether I have wisdom or not is subject to debate. However, knuckleheads who erratically drive and/or text while driving (thus endangering me and/or loved ones) will always "bug" me and there are no meds or meditations that will change that. And that comes from an old guy who eschews meds but is of a meditative nature Bud PS Bob does, indeed, have a cool website!
Our albums and singles are on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Pandora and more. If interested search on Janice Merritt. Thanks! Our Videos
