hi,

I would like to write this in BIAB but I do not know how to do it.

I would like to create a backing track to practice on this II-V-I sequence as you see at the end of this video-

II-V-I progression piano tutorial

It’s probably the order you’re typing it.

Type: G7#5b9

Tip: this is one variation of a G7alt chord. You could try that, and BIAB will give you some further variations.

Type: (wait for it...) G7alt

For anyone reading who doesn't recognize this, it's one of BIAB's better features that this chord type is supported. A 7alt chord is one in which neither the 5th of the chord nor the 9th is perfect/major respectively. In other words, you can get a flat 5, a sharp 5, a flat 9, and/or a sharp 9, and any combination of those, such as your #5b9 chord above. The 7alt can be used when you would have written a 7(#9), 7(b9), 7(#5) or 7(b5), and it often gives more 'interest', particularly in jazz. The new BIAB Natural Arrangement feature generally chooses the 'right' one for a progression.

A 7alt chord is a very cool chord to blow on.

alt= guessing:

"go ahead there son, just pick any old one of those four notes" - grin

Larry

BTW there are 792 ways to pick 7 items from a collection of 12 things. I suspect that one day some new, new, new most modern of modern jazz insiders will give a NAME and USE for every single 12 choose 7 note "scale" and claim each is valid!

And if the listener says that scale sounds like crap and may as well be random noodling it will be the listeners fault for not being a post-Doc. in music theory. wink

For the cases where there are existing octatonic scales (8 notes) there are only 495 ways to have 12 choose 8 things. Whew, that was close, only about half as many scales to suffer through. cool

(Relax, just having a little fun with numbers)

I think what you’re describing is the Unnatural Arrangement feature, scheduled for BIAB 2023.

One thing about Band in a Box.

There is no other forum on the face on the earth where you will ever get to hear a quote like this.
